This is basically just Marvelwatch. Overwatch died so that Marvel Rivals could thrive.

It's like Smash Bros (Melee), but BETTER. The reason being it's still got the sauce that Melee has, but it's more accessible to those newer to platform fighters, or those that have a harder time inputting the difficult tech that Melee has developed over it's long years. Easier tech to perform = more accessible, hence why I think it's better than Melee. Also, the dev team is cool, with the lead Dev Dan Fornace being a big smash bros fan. Rivals of Aether 1 is underrated, but understandably less accessible to smash bros enjoyers due to innate game mechanics being too different to pick up easily. This is more like smash bros and hence more accessible, while still also bringing something fresh to the genre.

GET THIS GAME if you like platform fighters. It's not expensive, and all characters (both current, AND FUTURE ONES) are and will be FREE.

Early Access Review
So I loved Paragon. The EPIC Games 3rd person, over-the-shoulder MOBA. It died. Fortnite killed it. However, they released the game's assets for free once they announced they weren't going to support it anymore, and many attempts to revive the game have been made by various groups. There are currently 2 that are currently available and worth checking out: "Paragon: The Overprime" and "Predecessor".

That first one, Paragon: The Overprime, is being supported by a Korean Mobile Game dev called Netmarble, and they obtained the rights to use "Paragon" in their game title. That one is Free-to-play currently.

This one, Predecessor, is being developed by fans of the original Paragon, who decided they didn't want to let their favorite MOBA die for good. It is currently Buy-to-play, to gain access to the Early Access, but plans to launch as Free-to-play whenever they're done with Early Access. (No date announced for full release as of the posting of this review).

Both games have different maps, different interpretations of Hero's kits, different game flows. They FEEL different. Predecessor feels a lot closer to how Paragon used to play. Overprime feels faster paced, but many dashes feel clunky to use. Predecessor's gameplay itself is a lot smoother, but it's UI leaves a lot to be desired. Overprime's UI feels small and hard to read, but features are more developed, with many more heroes and skins added than Predecessor. Ranged attacks are hitscan in Overprime, but have travel time in Predecessor. Both have their draw, but I personally prefer Predecessor cuz it's the closest to what I loved about the OG Paragon. Highly recommend Predecessor, but both are at least worth trying.

This game is my favorite Battle Royale game by far. Partly because it's not your typical battle royale game. It blends fighting games, which I like, with the battle royale genre, and I think it works quite well. I feel like this game hasn't gotten the attention it deserves. The devs are constantly updating, making balance changes (usually for the better), and the cosmetics are absolutely gorgeous. 10/10 game.

It's not perfect, and does have some issues, particularly with VPN users from other regions with very high ping making some fights unfair, but overall I've enjoyed my time with this game.

Scratches the smash bros itch, while still feeling fresh and unique in it's own way. Excited for new character possibilities, but also, THEY HAVE VOICE ACTING, including neat little banter between the characters during matches.

Do not believe that this game is simply more of the same from The Surge 1. Think of The Surge 1 as a really long early alpha for this game. This game actually has polish, fleshed out combat mechanics, and pretty decent level design. You are actually able to identify areas you've been before, and shortcuts both make sense and are actually useful. Versus The Surge 1 where you were always in just another metal hallway. (*Deja Vu plays in the background*)

Enemy design is decent in general (and leaps and bounds better than The Surge 1). Although one could argue a lot are just variants of the same "dude in an exosuit", the weapon variants and tools that enemies use are varied enough to generate different enemy encounters that I found never got boring. And just like Dark Souls 3, if you got cocky or careless, every individual enemy can and will kill you given the opportunity.

Weapons themselves feel SOOO much better. It no longer takes 10 years to light attack with any weapon other than twin-rigs. Directional parrying is fun and just barely challenging enough starting out to feel rewarding to master without the implant that gives you an indicator crutch (which I highly recommend at the beginning of the game, or when encountering new enemy types). A few awesome new weapon types, plus new elements are fun to mess around with.

Body party targeting returns as a fully fleshed out combat mechanic. Targeting unarmored parts still gives a damage boost, and targeting armored parts gives loot, but it's more than that now. Which type of body part affects which type of loot you will get. See that enemy over there? See his weapon? See what he's wearing? All that can be yours, for the low cost of dismembering him 5 times, each with targeting the respective body part. From there on, dismember the corresponding body part to get materials for upgrading that type of gear.

The healing mechanic was is interesting. Although you can "store charges" of your healing ability by using up a battery, you have to GET that battery charged in the first place. So, in order to sustain yourself, you have to be aggressive enough to build battery charge without it decaying, but also defensive enough to not get killed in your attempt to do just that. I find it a very fun dynamic that rewards preparing for a boss fight by building charge on enemies before the fight, or creates stressful low-hp scenarios where you have to parry perfectly or dodge and counter attack without getting rekt before being able to heal.

If you really liked Dark Souls 3, you will like this game. This game manages to both copy the Souls-like formula well, but also stand out on it's own with unique combat mechanics and environments. It's story it kinda interesting, but overall kinda meh. But lets be honest, that's not why most of us play these types of games.

A must buy if it's on sale, and I would say it's earned it's worth full price.

THE best platformer game I have ever played. *HIGHLY* recommend (even full price) Definitely deserves the "Masterpiece" tag on Steam.

As a side note, in case people are wondering about game length, I finished the game in 23hours with 94% completion. I took some time to get as many upgrades as I could without using a walkthrough.

One of the best free-to-play multiplayer games out there, even now. The developers are amazing (Digital Extremes) and actually listen to the community, the game is fun for hours on end, and constant updates with new Warframes, new weapons, and new content (including Story Quests, events, and new updates to systems that need improvement) make the game one of the best ever in my opinion.
