A tight, deceptively deep gameplay loop wrapped up in an aesthetically pleasing package, with tons of fun bonus challenges and a wealth of unlockables. Easy to pick up and play for a few minutes, just as easy to get sucked into for hours. You really can't ask for more from a Game and Watch style time-killer!

The ending of this game might well make you cry, for two very different reasons. Yi's journey of revenge and redemption is one of the most powerful stories I've ever had the pleasure of playing, and foes standing in his way almost all rank among the most satisfying challenges I've ever had the pleasure of mastering. So satisfying I'm already on a second playthrough, using the few achievements I missed as an excuse to fight them all again. But MAN, did they ever kick my ass on the way there. Especially the final boss, who demands a higher degree of perfection than even the toughest foes in Sekiro.

All I can say is, don't give up! It's worth the struggle to get to the end! (...or you can always turn on story mode if the challenge is too much for you. It's just as beautiful either way.)

if you've always been too intimidated to give Dark Souls or similar games a try, this is the game that will make you a believer and give you a foundation to "git gud"

if you've played a ton of soulslikes and are looking for a new fix, it does enough different to set itself apart and provide a fun learning curve even for veterans. More satisfying in the mid-game than the endgame, especially if you're a completionist and make yourself too powerful, but by the time you're at the point, you'll be hooked enough on the story and world to power through.

Basically, if you like soulslikes, or think you might like soulslikes but are scared to try, GET THIS GAME!

I first picked the game up when the edgerunners anime came out, and ended up falling off after the prologue because despite some clear improvements from launch, it was still a bit janky and levelling sucked. Post-2.0, everything is different, and basically all of it for the better. This game is MASSIVE and gives you so many different options for how to play it, each mechanically tuned to be satisfying in its own way. first person melee combat, first person shooting, and point and click adventure hacking mechanics all feel equally good to use and equally viable, and even within those distinct playstyles there's a TON of variety. I could easily play this game ten times as long as I have without getting bored.

But as good as the mechanics are, they pale in comparison to the real star of the show: Night City herself. It's the densest, most beautiful and characterful virtual city I've ever had the pleasure of visiting; there's tons of cool ♥♥♥♥ to do and find hidden around every corner! and there's a good chance you'll discover a good chunk of it because just... driving around the place, soaking in the sights and soundtrack, feels SO GOOD that you won't want to touch the fast travel system. Cyberpunk always had the ultimate open world city. Now, thanks to the patch, the game has finally gotten out of the way of us enjoying it.

an elegant, momentum-focused moveset combines with sublime, speedrun-friendly stage designs to form one of the tightest 3D platforming experiences out there. Easy to learn, hard to master, and built to both test and be exploited by masters; Like Neon White is for movement shooters, it's everything a hardcore platformer player could want in a game.

Thanks for the recommendation, Nitrorad

phenomenal port of the best superhero sandbox game ever made. runs like a dream with absolutely jaw-dropping visuals. if you have a high-end PC, you're honestly wasting money by *not* buying it.

Mostly a very easy metroidvania with a few frustrating difficulty spikes and design flaws. I like the idea of traveling back and forth in time on the same map in theory, but in practice the world of lachiem is a little too flat. A good metroidvania map folds in on itself more than this and doesn't NEED this many fast travel waypoints. Bosses and enemies are mostly a cakewalk, despite looking cool - to the point that I sequence broke without even trying.

That said, it controls well and has some really fun moments and cool story beats, as well as a few really neat moments of discovery.

unfortunately the overall story is kinda... lacking. there's interesting ideas about time travel at play, and it's neat to visit both a far future and medieval setting rolled into one, but the dialogue is overly expository and on the nose with its anti-violence themes, the characters are pretty one note, and the final run to the "true ending" has basically nothing to do with the rest of the plot.

Speaking of - it's fantastic to see ANY kind of LGBT representation in a game, but attaching basically all of the "ships" to sidequests makes them feel more "token" than I think the developers wanted them to be. like "fetch some key items, get some rare food drops, now everyone sits down to talk about their sexuality." This is character development that could - and I think should - have been organically woven into the main story instead of pushed to the sidelines.

Definitely impressed with the overall polish of this game (it's cool to see 32-bit design through a retro indie lens). but I only recommend it if you've run through the other, better metroidvanias out there already and want something fresh.

I love this game for so many reasons - too many to reasonably write out here - but I made a video review that delves into everything the game does right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oOLhrUOgBE&index=1&list=PLiA-wx1wjaKrtYHhYjtueQ1JeFTCe9Ocf

Obviously delving into everything means spoilers, so ideally you'll wanna watch that after you play the game, but if you still can't make your mind up about playing it, even with everyone (myself included) saying it's pretty much a lock for game of the year, then maybe that'll help to change your mind. Undertale is more than it seems. A lot more.

It'll both take you back to the first day you ever played games and show you new things you never thought possible before. It's pretty amazing.

This is stealth gaming at its purest. Lurk in the shadows, climb in the rafters, and only approach enemies when there's no one to hear them scream. The combat is unweildy, awkward, and just plain bad - and that makes it amazing. If fighting were viable, or even enjoyable, it would ruin the game's incredible tension. And the tension in the game is incredible - so thick you could cut it with a nasty serrated dagger. The levels are immense and superbly designed, feeling wholly natural while offering a smorgasbord of finely-tuned stealth challenges. On top of that, there are so many routes through each environment that you can replay them time and again and still discover new things. The excellence of the design is further exemplified by later missions, which see you doing the same levels backwards (with new enemy patrols). Exfiltrating the same tightly-guarded spot you just worked so hard to get into has an entirely different feel to it, and makes the environments feel all the more real.
Fans of "Of Orcs and Men" know how good the story in that game was, and Styx delivers on the same level. At first it seems a little generic - bit of amnesia here, bit of "dark fantasy" language there - but when the pieces start to fall into place it reveals itself to be an intelligent and thought-provoking examination of a lot of heavy concepts.
Styx: Master of Shadows is the best stealth game I've played in years, and I play a LOT of stealth games. If you're sick of the namby-pamby handholding that characterizes stuff like Assassin's Creed, this could easily be one of your new favourite games.
