TLDR; decent game carried by cool bosses and average hacks and slashes, hellish in other ways

i so want to like this game, and have tried many times to get through it on pc since its og release on ps3, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is a slog to me. some of the enemy types in this game just kinda suck ass, especially the huggy guys, ♥♥♥♥ that. aside from that though it's pretty standard cool sword stuff, i get to run around and kill things as MGS4 suit raiden, so i am ok. the camera system is definitely not ok on controller, which is the only way the game will let me play; the camera is PRETTY bad. the parry being tied to a directional input while using the regular attack is really weird and leads to me not being able to do a lot of precise things that i'd wanna do; i kind of wish this game was more of a game like sekiro is instead of a platinum games game, but that's unrelated and a personal thingy. the bosses as characters are pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome, and the fights are cool enough, armstrong is obviously the funniest part of the game and also just a cool character.

my biggest problem aside from the Weird gameplay choices is the story. coming off of MGS4's story for Raiden, this is just so bizarre. im not gonna spoil anything for those suffering the consequences of MGS4 PS3 Prison Hell, but it's just a shame how his character is done in this game to me, and i can never get past it taking it at face value. the game was meant to be a prequel before its finished development, but platinumgames was told they could make it a sequel when it was passed onto them so it wouldn't be as stressful, which is nice. the only problem is that some core aspects of that prequel story just kind of got loosely transferred over imo, and it just comes off as disrespectful to the original story sometimes.

overall, the game is alright, i find most of the fun just playing as MGS4 raiden runnin around doing my thing, but it could've been a lot more. giving it a recommendation because it's a fun time overall, despite the gripes with the story :)
