literally everyone's mind is probably plagued by the same kind of doubts whenever they wonder whether they shall give this game a try.
and what shall i say? you very much should.
it combines both Beholder and Beholder 2 in a way. this is what i like the most gameplay-wise: you can't really get bored too much, you gotta pay attention to this and that, bills are incoming, you run between the Ministry and the house you're taking care of, you choose between your blasted tenants and the family - and, surprise, both tenants AND your family act like huge bastards occasionally! they might have their fair points, but like, wtf bro i am scraping bottom as i am and you blame me for NOT amassing enough wealth in time? ♥♥♥ fr fr
this game is very branched story-wise, i will certainly have it explored to the fullest before i grow as old as the Great Leader of course, but nonetheless yeah, you could totally sink hours in this and have a Lotta fun.
also, out of all three games and the first game's dlc, the dlc and this part kept me most anxious all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time. seriously.
i LOVED this despite the mainstream opinion. does it feel blatantly bland at times? yes. does it feel uncanny from the very start regarding certain things? quite.
but i think that only betters the overall experience, to hell with it. this is a dystopia. it's been running for years. this game could've had a secondary title FUTILITY, as even the, quoting Lotta Altmann, "capitalist hell" ending which i found the best so far, feels somewhat shady; kinda makes me think back to Beholder 2's ending, so i deem it all a grand illusion. haha.
i'd label this game postmodern, and i do not do that too often.

so in the end i am very satisfied, be devs the same or not. this IS cool. period.

2024/10 literally 2024 (we're hopeless and bound to die /j (or is it a /j?)

Beholder 2 greatly expands upon the entirey of the series' worldbuilding and excels at pushing a rather hm ordinary dystopian story at first glance toward something hardly describable with words.
this game is worth replaying, too, since i picked the debatably bloodiest way to play it first and foremost, but i'll def go through this again at some point.
having not so much to do with the first game's gameplay, i probably liked that even more in this game, especially as it varies as you progress higher and higher up the Ministry.
if the first game was hugely Orwellian, this one here gets more original. it also elaborates on some of the prequel's obscurities, e.g. you get to know why the state outlawed damn APPLES. peak!

1985/10 orwellall. overall. yeah.

an amazing cyberpunk mystery game. neither too short nor excruciatingly long, it is a fairly clever mixture of occasionally mercilessly twisted puzzles and a peculiar plot. the graphics are topnotch, the music is pretty calm most of the time, but goes real hard on a few occasions. i just wish there were more games akin to this one; while there probably are plenty of those, i certainly do not regret having played through this banger first.

10/10 the cat does all the job for the mc

fairly short alas, overall chill, creepier by the endgame and quite challenging at times
some soundtracks stuck with me too so you should play it

stunning! rather short but mad fun though i did have to struggle at times. well, skill issue i suppose
i feel like the story could benefit from some further development but oh well who knows what the future holds for this game anyway
odds are i coulda cleared this in one go had i had more time but nevertheless yeah it's that cool

anyhow yeah wish there were more games like this one. puzzles felt like a drag at times but well i'm no genius either so it's cool

i'm speechless. the entire char cast and the story they make up is heavily reminiscent of one of my own short stories to me actually but this goes far deeper adding in the mystery element to spice things up
i am prolly dumb and some stuff might've been obvious tbh but to me it just wasn't. so the intrigue kinda stuck with me till the end.

it feels like YIIK gets even more postmodernised than it already is, and that's just great imo
can't wait for the full update to release. i NEED more postmodern games in my blood asap...

this could be yet another "i am so yiiking out rnnnn" review but no i want to genuinely remark on how actually fantastic this game is. be wary that it IS postmodern and therefore it's probably a bit of a mindfwck to perceive it as something meant to be easily perceived, but why would you start a game with no desire to get into it wholeheartedly anyway?
the only complaint i used to have is the battle system but by the end i managed to not only get used to it, but also grew to enjoy it, soooo yeah it ain't half-bad either and there's a giant update coming soon anyways

i also happen to relate quite a bit to the very unlikeable protagonist who... well, he at least attempts to grow, you know? and the fact that he sucks so much at so many things just goes to teach anyone playing a lesson on who not to turn out in life which i say is also worth the time invested. plus it explores the twistedness of the mind exceptionally. this here is probably one of the finest pieces of postmodern art out there - and i say that having read quite a few gems, and having also written and made a few YIIKs of my own, too.

so i DO recommend this to literally everyone. if they have the courage and desire to immerse themselves in it, anyway. discussing this game in one small company would probably be the best experience as well, yet sadly i happened to lose just about the entirety of my usual social circle so :skull:

2000/10 — and i'd be lying to myself if i rated it a digit lower!
