This game is dead, but I still like bot matches, they're enough to let me play around with builds. One of very few games I think work well on mobile.

Just extremely impressive. Almost like playing a true ttrpg.

No big surprises here. It progresses well.

This is very nearly a good game, and I've got high hopes for the studio in the future. As it stands, I would only recommend getting it when both the base game and Lost Valley are at a discount.

Combat is almost a carbon copy of DND 5e, and done reasonably well. AoE targeting is difficult at first, but workable. The biggest issue for me is a lack of communication and clarity, for instance when a long jump will test the abilities of a character. The game doesn't give you a heads up in any way, just lets you plot the movement and then hits you with a surprise athletics check that, should you fail, leaves you incapacitated. Likewise, it is not always clear when a plotted path will lead you into the AoE of a harmful spell. A GM would give notice, the game engine does not.

Crown of the Magister is a railroady mess that is only masquerading as an RPG. You are for instance encouraged to pick alignments for your characters, but the only function of that is to provide flavour in dialogue. Who says what, and in which tone. The party is still gonna say essentially the same things, and you have no real choice in matters.

Lost Valley is a much better campaign than CotM, less railroady and more nuanced. If this were the base game, I would say go for it. Even so, I'm currently having a spot of bother in that the game freezes just when I'm about to finish the main plot, which is kind of a bummer.

What it says on the tin, I suppose. A bit more focus on cosmetic stuff than I was expecting, but that's no bother.

A tremendous remaster. The levels are truly beautiful, the music feels exactly how I remember it. The controls feel tightened, though some of the mechanics are simply dated these days. I was always going to enjoy this for the sheer nostalgia, but I am genuinely impressed with it. A must-buy if you enjoyed these games as a kid, and honestly worth it if not.

"That wasn't elegant, but you got up."

The above quote is the most charitable summary I can give of this experience so far. The special hell has seats reserved for everyone involved in making this.

This game has easily held my attention for 70 hours already, and it's barely been a week since launch.

All in all, I think this is quite a good game. Warframe meets Doom meets Borderlands. Kind of. It plays well, it looks nice, it's got a lot of good voice acting and a surprising amount of lore that I haven't really gotten around to reading yet. Three classes, each with three subclasses, and each subclass sporting several "modes" to play them in. Plenty of different weapons and armor, and most of them drop with rolled stats or perks, so you can spend some time anticipating that perfect roll.

I would not recommend playing this game by yourself. For one, it's a pretty steep learning curve. I was lucky enough to have seasoned friends who could show me the ropes, but I think just having someone with whom you could talk things through would help a lot. Also, I find the gameplay itself a lot more rewarding when you're properly coordinating with a friend or two.

The game itself is free, but they're not at all shy about suggesting you pay up for the DLCs. Quest lines etc will be visibly unavailable, and there's a few other mechanics that implicitly sneer at you for being such a pleb. This is most noticeable at the start, and very much dies off after a bit, so either the game gets the message or you simply stop noticing its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I did end up buying the DLCs, for whatever that's worth. 100+ hours of entertainment would be a lot more expensive at the cinema.

The puzzles have a nice progression to them, which leaves you in that sweet spot where you often have to think a bit, but will ultimately solve most of them on your first go. Very little story/lore is forced upon you, though it is available in charming snippets when you want it. Overall I've found this game very rewarding to play, even though there's something quite heretical about discussing philosophy using only pre-written statements.
