Honnestly, very disapointed by Hammerwatch 2. I was a die-hard fan of the series and spent way too long trying to redo them to get rare acheivements. My review might have been different if the previous games did not exist.

They've shoved too many mechanics, too many McGuffin quests, too many dungeons. The story telling reminds me of old adventure games (in a bad way); there are no waypoints, ways to find wich NPC gave you certain quests, etc. The keys system become immediately irrelevant. The gambling mini-game is mid, at best (and should't be mandatory!)

The story itself feel like an extreme railroad that grasps at straws to keep up. "Oh no, the bridge over this shallow river is out, so the only logical solution is to infiltrate the thieves guild so you can get the grappling hook (ya know, a rope with a metal bit, not magical or anything). Just let me swim and save 2hr.

All in all, the simple and focused rogue-like attributes that made me fall in love with the series are dead and have been reanimated into an open world mess.

To finish my ♥♥♥♥-sandwich, the art, as always, is amazing, the score if fitting and great.

Early Access Review
I fell like this was coded in visual basic with paint assets. Albeit that, the title stand for itself, it is impossible, the levels are hard and will appeal to some 1% of people who like doing things over and over for hours on end.

The gameplay is fair enough, arrows and double jump, you can't control the spinning of the cube, wich and be trouble.

The hitboxes are based on the sprites, not the graphics, so you die for being to close to a spike while on a flat surface.

Graphics are bad. Not only are de serifs fonts horrible, they clip over the game screen, go away too fast, or hide behind the actual level. Every asset is a single tile repeated multiple times.

Music is ok, as far as repetition go.

I wont go further, given the beta status, but I will say this. This is not worth 5$. This is not a beta game, this isn't even an alpha game. This is a minimum viable product; the least possible ammount of work done to release something. Any developper with any self respect wouldn't ever show something like this to the world. Even less giving 50'000 copies of it away on steamgifts just for show.

30 impossible levels is truly impossible. Impossible to look at. I got it for free and feel like my account lost value.

Got it for free on a Humble Bundle sale. This is a ''first look'' review, will uptade later.

All around good strategy game. With plenty of depth.

Love the flavor texts. However, getting to know the rules is a bit of a wall of text. A classic, optional tutorial, where you run around and get things explained as they go would have been nice. Learning by experiencing.

This is going to feel peckinsh but, even if the menu music is great. Please don't put a song with lyrics somewhere I need to read alot. It screws my brain.
