As much as I'd like to give this game a thumbs up, there's a lot of issues with it that make the game feel unpolished, and not worth the full price at all; I'd only recommend buying the game when it's on one of the sales that slashes the price down to almost nothing.

Issues:

1. The game crashes, a lot.
Usually, a bit of crashing wouldn't be a deal-breaker, and you may be able to blame some of the issue on your machine, and how much memory you have, your graphics card, etc...but the amount of crashing this game does to a large amount of the player base is almost comical if it wasn't painfully frustrating. On single player mode, it's a major inconvenience and can set you back several minutes or worse based on when it auto-saved last. In a server with other people, PVP or PVE, it can get you drowned, dropped from a high altitude, killed by other players or creatures nearby, and then make it hard to log back into the server because the game didn't recognize that you went offline. It's taken me 5 minutes or more before for the game to recognize that I crashed, wasn't still logged in, and let me back on a server. By then my character had drowned. On single player, it caused me to have to rebuild and redo things over and over in hopes I didn't crash again.

2. Several UI issues, AI issues, and mechanics that don't work well or correctly.
For as old as the game is, there are still several issues with what parts of the UI properly work, how some of the animal AI works, and there's items and pieces in the map that either don't function well, or need mods to work correctly at all. Although the game, maps, and textures are beautiful, it falls apart a bit when some of the base mechanics of the game are either inconsistent or non-existent in some areas.

3. Bugs from Years ago still haven't been fixed.
There are issues that were complained about years ago that are still a major issue (like the ichys accidentally killing themselves when they jump out of the water). Issues that either make it difficult to use a certain creature in the game, or make it almost instantly die because of a bug once it's tamed. It's frustrating that a bug can make so many animals unavailable for use, because they die instantly once they accidentally breach the surface. Minor bugs here and there definitely are frustrating, but some feel more game-breaking and ruin some of the enjoyment.

Overall, I've put 131 hours into the game, and will probably put more. Maybe out of self-hatred, spite, or a real want for this game to eventually have less issues. For now, I wouldn't recommend ever purchasing it at full price, or any of the paid expansions either. Major sale? If you are up to the suffering, join us. Otherwise there's other dinosaur games and survival games that will probably cause you less stress and frustration.
