DEMOCRACY PREVAILS.

The game is fantastic and for once a big corp listened to reason. Still doesn't mean I trust Sony, they get no congrats from me for doing what should have been done in the first place.

---------------------------------------------------------
OLD REVIEW:

The game itself is fantastic. However, democracy didn't require a Playstation account to be spread beforehand, and it shouldn't be required now.

The publisher is a scummy company. I do not trust Sony with my information. I do not trust Sony to have my information's safety at the forefront of their goals. They've shown many times in the past that they do not care for their consumers if they can get away with it. They have the ability to support developers that make fantastic games. But they ruin it by requiring things to boost their own figures for shareholders.

This isn't about cheating or safety, it's about numbers. And we are all just numbers to Sony.

The first time in a very long time I have been able to play a game for 8+ hours straight, not be bored, only getting off to go to bed cause I can barely keep my eyes open.

Yes there are a ton of small bugs, visual, audio, and gameplay related. I have personally had 1 gamebreaking bug where my character wouldn't wear clothes so I was naked, no matter what I tried to equip. Some items would equip but be bugged out. A simple restart fixed it. Other than that its a truly immersive experience and a game where I actually don't mind not using the fast travel. Taking in all the sights and sounds is amazing.

Also this game has the potential to have skyrim levels of replay-ability and hours invested. It took 5 hours of straight playing to get to the title screen.

If you're on the fence about buying it, love open world games, like loot n shooters and an in-depth story (so far anyway,) you should buy this game.

Having the opportunity to find small easter eggs feature keanu is great too.

I saw some frame drop, but I was also streaming the game at 1080p at 60fps while playing the game at RTX Ultra at 165fps. At no point did I see any crashing or anything like that. Though your miles may vary.

PC info:
i9-9900K
RTX 2080 Super
16GB 3600Mhz DDR4 Ripjaws
Game is on a SATA SSD.

It's been almost 2 years and this game still starts at 720p, instead of your monitors resolution. It has a ton of bugs that were here on launch day (muffled sound bug which happens every other mission, bug where you don't actually die when in a vehicle and it explodes, you just constantly stay in slow motion and blurred out). Chaos Points feel lackluster now, Wingsuit controls feel a bit laggy.

Voice characters feel unnatural with the fluidity of their conversations. Rico has changed voices so much over the past 4 releases it's comical now.

This game is fun.. for a bit, but the bugs and way the controls feel make the game worse, much much worse.

Edit:

The missions feel a bit bugged too, if you're not perfect with accuracy for some missions its an auto fail. But other than that I'm starting to have some fun atleast.

Early Access Review
Visually it took my breath away. The lush forests, the vast caves, and the huge map make for endless ways to play the game. Whether you're speed running it, Trying to build impressive bases or just leisurely playing the game, letting it take you places, you will find it hard to put the game down. I found myself setting endless goals and wasting away hours on things that would make playing the game easier, rather than progressing the story at all. Even just taking it slow, and taking in the stunning forests and wildlife. The developers used very good sound effects for almost everything you and whatever is around you, do. From walking on mud, rocks, sand, or metal, to cutting down trees, big and small. To the tree's rustling from the wind. The eerie noises at night of distant cannibals and wildlife. I definately suggest playing the game at night if you want to get really immersed in the game. Put some surround sound headphones on and try not to get scared by a deer getting startled by you in the night.

Playing with friends just makes it even more fun, as you all are either teaming up against cannibals, wildlife, or nature. Or you all play as lone wolves, eeking out a life, rarely meeting one another, even if only to trade somethings then part ways again.

Among the horde of survival games, this stands out above almost all of the rest. 10/10.

If this was just about gameplay: 10/10
Including everything though: 8/10

Rocket League will always hold a special place in my heart. As developers go, so will Psyonix. They give a great game at under half the price of other games, even years after those games have started to fade into oblivion (Most Call of Duty games that aren't Remastered). They listen to the community and respond.

TL:DR
Full game for $20, plus cosmetic enhancements for those who wish to blow more money. Physics kinda weird for a physics based game. Lots of DLC, and they are pretty good. Game has a Micro-transaction problem for those who can get addicted to gambling easily (Younger kids, mainly.)

Gameplay:
When it comes to core gameplay, its a full game. They didn't pull an EA move, and release a game half done, then through DLC and updates they make it whole, no. Nothing is pay to win with this game. Cosmetic Items are just that. They are there to show off your swag, luck with crates, or how much you're willing to pay to have that item. You will spend hours and hours trying to get better at things like Aerials, dribbling whether it's via the ground or air, or even just hitting the ball where you want it to hit.

All of that being said, some mechanics of the actual game seem to be... off some of the time. Ball glitches are pretty common in Online play. Not nearly as bad as it used to be, but it is still there, atleast once a game. I haven't really had this issue considering I'm the only person on my network, but lag can come into play if you have a heavily used network (I.E you have 2 parents 3 kids and a dog on the wifi. You're probably gonna experience some lag, especially on certain servers you will notice.) For a physics based game, the mechanics seem to not make sense every now and then. the ball will hit a flat part of the wall on a downward angle, and then bounce up, for instance. But things like that happen.. regularly... However they aren't as noticeable as Ball Glitches, or Lag.

Community:
As with any community you will find Cheaters, Poor Sports, Trolls, the lot really. However more often than not, you will find people with hearts of pure gold. I have met many people through this game that I talk to daily, and have built pretty strong friendships with. To the point where I don't know where I would be if I never played Rocket League. It's very easy to block the negative out of the Online experience in this game. You can make it so you can only see team chat, quick chat, or even just team quick chat, or nothing at all. If you choose to do nothing at all, you are going to put yourself at a disadvantage though since you won't be able to communicate with your teammates. Find people you are good with, and roll with them. You will have a better time.

You're gonna have to build a tolerance to sarcasm if you intend to play this game online regularly. If you miss an easy save, you're more than likely gonna get what a save'd - by your own teammate. You just have to brush it off and keep trying. It happens to all of us, even the person that what a save'd you.

DLC and Micro-transactions:
This game now has a ton of DLC and a huge micro-transaction "problem". I put problem in quotations because they don't force you to buy anything. You can play the game just like John Doe who has spent hundreds on keys for crates, just you won't have fancy wheels, or skins, or boost trails and whatnot.

I say it's a problem, mainly because this game has a lot of younger kids playing it, and unless they have crate notifications turned off, they are bombarded by micro-transactions. This could quickly develop into a gambling addiction, fueled by the occasional painted or certified item, that is worth a lot of keys.

The DLC is cheap, and great usually. New cars are always being introduced to the game via DLC or Crates. And usually a week after the crate comes out with that new car, the car is worth about as much as the DLC cars are, even less after longer periods of time.

Overall:
This is a fantastic game. You'll find yourself having good and bad days playing it like any other game. It's very addicting to keep playing and trying to get better and better. Psyonix regularly updates and is very active with its community. Lots of things to unlock and be rewarded with. You'll be hard-pressed to find a better major title game for $20, even for more.
