I’ve played several other extraction shooters in the past, Tarkov, COD’s DMZ, The Forever Winter (kind of), Dark and Darker, but this is the only one that’s actually hooked me. The gameplay, world, and lore all come together in a way that makes me actually gaf about what's going on in universe. Istg this is the only other game besides The Forever Winter (and that game SUCKS) in the genre that actually uses its genre to build an actually intriguing universe.

The enemy AI is so so soo sooooooooooo cool. There’s a video by Embark on YouTube showing how they used deep learning AI to teach every Arc how to maneuver around the environment, and it’s really paid off here. Watching a Leaper stumble and find its footing after getting stuck, or seeing it launch itself at you from halfway across the map, catch onto the side of a building, and even wriggle into tight spaces just to keep chasing you, it all feels so dynamic and alive. It’s genuinely fun just watching the Arcs interact with the world around them.

The Raider AI voice changer has also been a huge help for me as someone who doesn’t feel comfortable speaking much in multiplayer games. Now, we’ve reached the point where it’s seriously convincing, the fact that it’s a voice changer is virtually indiscernible to the other raiders I've run into in-game.

Despite PvP being a major part of the experience, especially early game in The Dam Battlegrounds and The Buried City, gathering resources, searching for blueprints, and improving your workstations, you quickly realize that killing everyone you see can actually slows your progress. Taking every fight and extracting early because you’ve run out of healing, or because certain areas of the map are too crowded with players, can be a real dampener on getting meaningful loot in your raids and completing quests when most teams will just let you pass completely unharmed for just emoting "Don't Shoot" and going on your merry way.

I’ve been able to team up with two entire servers to gather loot and hunt Arcs during map events on Spaceport. I’ve even asked someone for a blueprint for a gun I needed, and not only was I given it, but I was also escorted to extraction with them.

Unfortunately, despite this game feeling so close to perfect, there are still some major issues. Exploiting into high value zones is rampant, which makes using keys feel a bit redundant at the moment. There’s also a considerable amount of desync between you and the servers, even on a great connection, which can lead to some really frustrating moments where you’ll get hit around a corner a full SECOND after dodging a bullet. The developers have acknowledged it atp and are looking into it, and I trust a studio like Embark to handle something this big

I genuinely trust Embark not to royally ♥♥♥♥ this up, unlike DICE with BF6’s Season 1 launch.

Great game, until Season One dropped and EA’s greed kicked in.
