Early Access Review
Legion TD 2 is a really fun game to play, especially if you are a fan of Tower Defense games. In this review I will explain to you what the basic concepts are of the game and what I think about it.

Gameplay
Legion TD 2 is a game where you have to fight monsters each wave to protect the king. You do this by placing down fighters or "towers" in your lane. You gain 6 towers when you select your "Legion", your class. All Legions have their own unique towers, and some towers have special abilities like taking less damage or healing allies.
Whenever you kill the monsters in your lane you gain some gold. However if you are unable to kill all the monsters and your towers die then you "leak". Your monsters will go to your king. If your ally was able to kill all his monsters, then his towers are teleported to the king to defend. If you and your ally are both unable to defeat the monsters, they will attack the king and the enemy team will get even more gold.

But how can I make my enemy leak? This is where workers and mercenaries come into play. You can spend gold to buy a worker, and that worker will gather "mythium" over time. These crystals are used to hire mercenaries that will attack the enemy lane. Some mercenaries are simple, however others have special abilities like slowing the attack speed of an enemy tower or healing monsters that attack the enemy. Use these to your advantage to make the enemy player leak.

Mercenaries also give some "income", however mercenaries with abilites give a little less. Income is gold that is given to you at the end of each round. Income is important because otherwise you won't have enough gold to kill the monsters and mercenaries in your lane. However, do you save some mythium this round so you can try to send a stronger mercenary next round to make the enemy leak? That's where the game starts to become really fun. You have to manage both your income and how much mythium you save to get stronger than your opponent and win the game. However, I recommend that you don't save too many rounds because then you will lose out on a lot of income.

You can also use mythium to upgrade the king. So when you leak and the king gets attacked, he will have more damage, heal more and deal more damage with his spell.

Something else you need to keep in mind is that all creatures have an attack and defense type. Pierce attacks are good against Swift and Arcane creatures, however creatures with Fortified or Natural defense take less damage. So try to make sure that you have all attack and defense types covered, and try to build the right attack and defense against the monsters that will attack you next round.

Finally, there are "Legion Spells". These are randomized every game and are unlocked at round 10. These can give gold, mythium, income or some neat effects. Do you want to overwhelm the enemy? Take Press the Attack or All Out Assault, which gives a big amount of mythium so you can send bigger mercenaries. Do you want your towers to heal whenever they attack? Then take Vampire, which makes it heal 20% of the damage dealt. Do you want big snails to be sent to your opponent? Get Giant Snails so make these little critters a fiersome nightmare.

What makes it fun?
This game is all about holding the enemy monsters and mercenaries, and making your opponent leak. This means you have to be very creative with what towers you use. Is your opponent mostly using Magic attack type towers? Then send on a wave where there are Arcane defense monsters and make the opponent leak, making him lose gold and giving you some extra gold. That gold can be spent by building even more towers, which allows you to hold the monsters and mercenaries in your lane. Over time you will gather enough of a lead to defeat the opponents and end the game.

Does your tower deal a lot of damage? Maybe I should place down a tower with an "aura" right next to it to give an effect that heals it whenever it deals damage. Or do I built a defense that is weak this round, so I am very strong next round? Do I save some mythium now, so I can send a very big mercenary next round?
These are all aspects of the game that take a little while to learn, however when you do understand these mechanics then the game becomes extremely fun.

What keeps it new?
Probably the top #1 what makes this game good is the "Mastermind" legion. This gives a roll of 10 random units that you can pick from. This means that each game you play is somewhat different. You will also learn about all the towers in the game, which means that you will discover new strengths and weaknesses that give you a small advantage against your opponents. Also notice that in competitive play (Ranked) all players are locked into Mastermind, making not only your rolls but all players rolls unique and different.

Besides that, the game is constantly changing and updating. Currently they are busy designing a new legion, Divine, and whenever they finish a new tower they publish it and allow you to play it early in Mastermind. This allows you to experiment with new tower and test out new tower combinations, keeping the game fresh.

What is the game missing?
Daily/Weekly/Monthly content
This is my biggest problem with the game. Please give us some basic quests that we can complete daily, like "Reach Wave 15" or "Have 100 Income at the end of the game", which will spice up your playstyle a bit. We already have some form of weekly content, a single player mode called the "Weekly Challenge" where you have a set amount of towers and you need to hold the enemy monsters and mercenaries which quite a few people like. However, I think it's quite boring and usually I just beat it for the reward and I don't try to improve my high score. Instead, give us special challenges where you have to defeat monsters from wave 2 and 8 together. Or maybe we have to fight a single king-sized unit from wave 18, with increased stats and maybe even special effects. Just give us something new, not "yes play ranked but solo and you have to win this round". A weekly and monthly quest would also be nice, like "Win 7 games" (weekly) or "Beat the Weekly Challenge 3 times" (monthly). Maybe give a very small amount of premium currency for the monthly challenge to keep people engaged.

For me, this is the bigget why I don't play the game that much (only 750 hours compared to 1000/2000 hours played by people in my friends list).

Would I recommend the game?
Definitely! The gameplay is fun and they are constantly adding new content and changing the game. The developers are great and I've had a few conversations with them, both on the forums and private chat. They are daily active on the forums and they have a special Discord channel where you can ask all kinds of questions about the game. A lot of players are very nice and forgiving, however like all competitive games you will have some bad apples here and there. 2020 was a good year, since a lot of new content was added to the game, and it can only go up from here.

Once bought it when it was on sale. Fun game, puzzles are well designed and don't punish you hard for making a mistake. The problem is, for Single Player it's approx. 2 hours of gameplay. It's not worth €10,- for just those 2 hours of gameplay, so get it while it's on a sale. (It's currently 90% off, I bought it while it was on a 98% off sale.)
Other than that, a fun game.

This game is the only game i love and hate.

Basically this is a rouguelike game which you play as one of the four characters and complete a dungeon with multiple floors. Sounds easy right? No. For some reason the "easy" difficulty is harder than most games i find difficult to play. You get two-shotted by bosses on Normal mode and the only good character is the ranged one because they can't directly attack you from afar unless they are mages or archers themselves. You spend two hours on a regular run and you probably won't finish the game in this time because you die by the bosses since a crit does like 60% of your HP for some reason- and in higher difficulties a crit would end your run.

Do i reccomend this game? Yes, it's so much fun. But only if you don't mind having to start over again. Basic combat that everyone can understand sounds horrible, but it's actually not that bad as it looks on paper and fits the game very well. The graphics are very nice for a pixely game and the music really gives a nice ambience, even while it sounds so... stupid?

Trust me, you will spend an hour, die, probably not play the game again for a couple of hours or even a day and do another attempt on it the next day. You will try your *ss off so hard that you will ragequit over and over again, but you still want to see that booty when you finish the game. You will get really pissed when you open a door and a boss shoots at you or uses magic at you and crits you, making you lose the game. But you will come back. And you will pick the archer 90% of the time since you hate the other guys being f*cking more hardcore than hardcore hardcore. You will deny your gf for sex because you you are so far playing this game and you haven't died yet...

Buy it.. Buy it now.. Finish the game for us so you can save our souls..
