Winds of Arcana: Ruination made me change my perspective towards Metroidvania games. I still am not a huge fan of the genre, but the game is very simple and straight-forward which is easier for players like me.
First things first, is the drastic frame drops which makes me consider whether to play it again or not. The game looks very simple and the world looks straight out of a comic book, which I like, but even in that plain setting, the frames drop when they matter the most, like when I jump or attack.
The World is built beautifully which makes me curious and interested in what it holds down the lane. The character designs may remind you of various games, but when they are combined with the story and the world, they stand out in their own way.
The gameplay is very normal and well-paced, and the mechanics are easy to learn. I am a huge fan of the dash move, just by how it looks and how useful it is during traversal. The enemies are very easy to defend against but the real challenges are the traps aligned with the platforms. I am a huge fan of platformer games, so I have enjoyed these challenges even though I was thoroughly thrashed by them.
In conclusion, even if the game offers nothing new in terms of gameplay or rewards, I am personally left curious on many things such as the story, the characters or the weapons and abilities in the future.
I'll recommend this game to people who want to start enjoying the Metroid Vania genre and get used the complex exploration and mechanics.
