Contrast is a game with a solid idea and little substance to back it up.

The core shadow shifting mechanic is clever and well designed. Manipulating light sources to move shadows around is intuitive and adds some complexity to the puzzles. Transitioning in and out of shadow is fluid and also fits well with the rest of the platforming. That being said, the clunky physics will frequently and unexpectedly push you out of shadows, often times due to a poorly designed obstacle location.

The highlight of the game is clearly its fantastic art design. The surreal Parisian-noire tone is presented well, covering everything from the lighting to the architecture. Once you've accustomed yourself to the art design however, there isn't much more to the game. The story is charming but rather predictable, the environments are small and sparse, and the puzzles are short and straightforward (complicated only by the aforementioned shadow physics). Most irritating for me were the constant fade-to-black mini-cutscenes, which take away control from the player and ruin the game's pacing.

The pop culture geek in me got a kick from the various movie easter eggs (Casablanca! Back to the Future! Fight Club!), but otherwise I was left disappointed. The premise shows a lot of promise but I wish the developers had done more with it.

Solid 2D platformer with a Greek theme. The art style is top notch, but at times the combat hit detection can get wonky because of the various weapon lengths. The game is also meant to be played with a gamepad, and if you're using an Xbox 360 controller its heavy reliance on the D-Pad can get frustrating due to its inaccuracy. Those few issues aside, I'd still recommend it.

Fun, whimsical platformer with colorful environments. Short but satisfying.

Mushroom 11 seems to think of itself as a platformer, but it's more of a slow puzzle game with a control problem.

You control your "blob" by using your mouse to paint away segments to destroy. The problem is that because you cannot control where the blob grows from, you're left tediously painting the same segments again and again in hopes that it eventually goes where you want it to.

I only bothered playing up until Chapter 4. Most of the puzzles were easy to solve but overly tedious to execute.

This is an incredible adventure game that verges on being an interactive story. The atmosphere is great, the puzzles are interesting without being rote, and it looks spectacular.

Best played with no expectations.

Clever through and through. A charming indie game with a great soundtrack. Never have I cared this much about rectangles.

One of the best games I have ever played, with one of the most incredible endings in all of gaming.

Great storytelling, characterization, and soundtrack. Five solid episodes but an unsatisfying ending.

An incredible neo(n) noir with a fairytale twist. Simply a masterpiece.
