Visual assembly programming wrapped in a bizzarro aesthetic. Strange, but fun.

I'm a big fan of the reboot series, and the gameplay in this installment delivers. But I can't in good conscience recommend this with the number of bugs it has at release.

I'm trying to beat the game for a second time on the hardest difficulty setting, and just now twice lost half an hour of progress due to glitches. The first time, Lara missed throwing her axe at a wall jumping from a ledge - which is a position where it should be *impossible* to miss unless the player fails to press the "throw" key. The second time, a puzzle bugged and wouldn't show the prompt to pry something and continue. When you have no way to save and no way to backtrack during the story, it's incredibly frustrating to lose progress due to things out of your control.

That frustration is what's driving me to write this review, but those bugs are just scratching the surface. Platforming issues abound: Lara frequently will miss jumps, miss axe throws, and fail to scramble, often causing you to fall to your death. I've had the camera fail to follow Lara once she dropped from a ledge; I had to reload to get Lara back on the screen. I once turned in a side quest and it played two cutscenes simultaneously (dialogue overlapping and all). And don't get me started on the 100% completion bug, though thankfully that was apparently fixed in the latest update.

The game has a lot of promise, and I enjoyed good portions of it. But I'd save your money until the developers polish it up.

An incredible narative game that tells the sombre tale of the unluckiest family in America. Clever, polished, and uses the medium to its full potential. Short but powerful, and highly recommended.

In-depth stealth strategy with an unbelievably detailed world. Expansive and feature-rich. Highly recommended, even if you've not a fan of the series.

Strange and yet hauntingly beautiful platformer. Everything from the lighting to the music to the animations is polished to perfection. Highly recommended.

Philosophy from The Talos Principle without any depth and envrionments from Portal without any charm.

While it starts promisingly, the puzzles are easy yet tedious, the plot is predictable, and the whole thing feels half-baked. At ~4 hours, at least it doesn't overstay its welcome.

Excellent 2.5D adventure/horror game, althought a little short (~4 hours max). Life is Strange meets Stranger Things.

If you've just finished Portal 2 and are itching for more content, this is unfortunately not the mod for you.

Well-intentioned as it may be, Aperture Tag suffers from the fact that the gel physics in Portal 2 were never particularly amazing. Add in the moving player and everything gets a little wonky.

The mod is also lacking a good deal of polish. Clipping brushes for tubes and ramps are jagged and allow the player to occassionally get stuck. Instead of changing a surface to not hold gel there is a big pop-up which says "by the way, don't put gel here". Your blue/orange gels are switched off somewhat arbitrarily, instead of fixing the level design to work around the tools the player already has.

The writing is okay, but the gameplay itself is subpar. If you want more of Portal 2 go play the co-op campaign, don't throw away your money on this.
