Edited my review in response to Gundam Evolution's shutdown but my statement still stands. Since I am reviewing a medieval game, I'm gonna have to say "get chiv2 instead" because even though the melee combat is worse, you can at least play as an infantry class without getting spammed to death by archers.

The most optimal way to play the melee game in Bannerlord's multiplayer mode is to play it like a crappier version of the cover shooters that took up the better portion of the mid-to-late 2000s. At that point, you'll probably just reinstall Rainbow Six Vegas 2 instead since optimal Bannerlord play is a worse version of that.

So my complaint about Empire: Recruit is such a terrible peasant compared to what other factions have, and this is adhere to the singleplayer lore that the Calradian Empire has such a massive army that they have more conscripts than they do the resources to adequately train and equip them. This type of balancing works in a singleplayer context since you'll have a larger number of poorly equipped AI units. However, since i'm talking about a multiplayer game balanced around 6v6 skirmishes with limited respawns, it's unrealistic to expect a group of naked men to dogpile a better-equipped unit.

I think there are ways to actually make the Imperial peasant unit playable while still adhering to singleplayer lore. As it currently stands, the only thing the Recruit succeeds in doing is adding additional stress when playing more expensive classes, since you have to either play perfectly or ragequit because you died and can now only spawn as the free kill.

Aaaaand e1.7.1 has confirmed what I already know: overpowered archers + various other imbalances in the class system are intentional

I would actually go as far as to say that buying a competing product that's exclusive to the Epic Games Store is unironically a better choice than buying this game which is on Steam.
