Further edited for 2024 Steam Awards: It's still good. Has bugs and performance issues, and some strange design decisions, but it's still a good game deep in its heart. Wholly recommend giving it at least a portion of your time. Sony's still, and always will be, garbage.

Edited due to Sony capitulating on the requirement for PSN. The game is good. It has bugs and problems but it is not a bad game and is led by a dev team with heart. Corporations should never be trusted, and this will serve as a reminder of that.

I will leave the original review up in posterity but change my review to positive. I hope the game continues to improve in a way that mends the damage Sony tried to cause in ignorance.

-------
Original Review:

Game didn't need Sony accounts to be linked beforehand due to "technical issues", and will now *require* the user on steam to have a Sony account to be able to play. Game's proven to not need Sony's accounts despite what they're trying to say. Even if I already have one, some countries won't be able to get one. Between a Kernal AC and this, one or both needs to go.

If you're willing to put up with it, it's a fun game. I've gotten my enjoyment out of it by a long shot, and I'll probably continue to play, without paying for their super credits. But if you haven't already, I'd strongly recommend considering if you're willing to put up with Sony's garbage.

Early Access Review
After putting in 18 hours and getting all but the 3 most grindy achievements the game has to offer, those being 50k clicks on the button (Hero skills and holding the click hotkey work for the record, I didn't know that when I started.), 1000 crises, and all ascension upgrades, I can say that the game is a solid foundation and very fun for those that enjoy balancing their production back and forth consistently. There's definitely some balancing questions to be asked. as workers as far as I can tell are objectively the best choice. The standard game isn't hard for the most part except for initially figuring things out.

However, the Tower of Babel and its level 20 achievement starts off at a simple pace, leading with completing the scenario at level 5, and then increasing achievements from 10 to 15 to 20. The final 5 levels between 15-20 were actually fairly intense and needed some pretty serious micromanaging of stunning, buff spamming, and resource gathering via the hotkey to succeed, and I barely scraped by to level 21 to force the achievement to pop for completing level 20.

It's a very solid, fun foundation for an incremental game, and I'd love to see it expanded on. Would recommend.

Updated for Steam Review 2023: The Roadmap proposed by the dev as of 11/22/2023 looks promising and focused. If they can achieve it, it will be an even more fun game than it is already.

There are few, if any games that I would recommend on the basis of just being amazing. If you love space, this is perhaps one of the best space games I've ever played. If you love learning and exploring, this one has it all for you. A perfect little adventure that never truly overstays its welcome. 9/10, ♥♥♥♥ that one planet.

Updated for Steam Awards 2020: It's a shame I can't put this in every single category, game of the year will have to do.

While the game absolutely shows its age in some places, It's more than worth the time and money put into playing it. I got a solid 37 hour-ish run out of it, and while that was enough to satisfy me, I'm sure someone else that's interested in seeing all the various outcomes and dialogues would have immense fun running through several times.

TLDR; 8/10; Amazing game, shows its age, unfortunately.

Updated 7/31/2024: While I deeply love the game, and the friends it has found me, I can no longer recommend the game. After TWO rounds of layoffs at bungie following the highest player counts at launch of Lightfall (despite its quality failings), and the quality of Final Shape, it just leaves a terrible feeling to recommend it to others. If you want a good looter shooter, as much as this game fits the bill, take your money, and time, somewhere else. Pete Parsons doesn't need another antique car after laying off another 100 people. I'll almost certainly continue playing, but I truly implore you, go somewhere else for a looter shooter experience.

It certainly has had, and currently has its issues. But for what it is, it's some serious fun with friends. If you enjoy a grind on your own, it's good for solo as well.

Step 1: Wake up
Step 2: Confused.
Step 3: Acquire implement of murder.
Step 4: Use said implement.
Step 5: Acquire more murder tools.
Step 6: Acquire ALL of the murder tools.
Step 7: Acquire Fashion.
Step 8: Stand in orbiter, surrounded by the loot of the dead, stolen from the greedy, for your own gain.
Step: 9: Wonder what's next.
Step 10: Repeat.
Updated for 2018, Current as of Fortuna Release: The pattern holds true, just do it in an open world as well.
