As a long-time fan of the Helldivers franchise, I was eagerly anticipating the release of Helldivers 2. However, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment upon discovering that the game now requires linking a PSN (Sony) account to play.

This decision feels like a betrayal of trust, especially considering Sony's infamous history of data breaches. From the massive breaches in 2011 that compromised the personal data of millions of users to the more recent incidents in 2023 and 2024, Sony's track record in safeguarding user information is concerning, to say the least.

What's even more frustrating is that this requirement was not clearly communicated to players before purchasing the game. It feels like an underhanded tactic to force players into a potentially risky situation without their full knowledge or consent.

While I understand the importance of online connectivity for modern gaming experiences, the lack of transparency and the association with a platform known for security lapses make it difficult for me to recommend Helldivers 2 to others. Until this issue is addressed and players are given a choice in how they access the game, I cannot in good faith support this decision.

I hope the developers and publishers reconsider this mandatory linking requirement and prioritize the security and trust of their player base.

Sony has walked back their decision to require a PSN account. I have always thought it was a good game and my negative review was solely based on Sony Requiring a PSN account 3 months after launch. I have changed my review from positive to negative.
