Battle Royale with power based meta progression, TIED TO GACHA???????????????????

Genuinely a contender for the single worst mechanic in video game history.

The power side of meta progression is a bit slower than I'd like (not a fan of having to individually upgrade every weapon, ability, AND rune), and the game's balance is a moderate dumpster fire, but the gameplay loop has me quite hooked.

This game is similar to other survivors-likes in the core gameplay, but the way Conquest Dark structures your character gives it sauce that I personally haven't really seen in the genre.

You have 4 Ability slots, Primary, Power, Passive, and Movement. Every ability falls into one of those categories and for everything but Passives, you'll only ever get one of each. Class/Origin selection gives you proficiency that determines which abilities are able to be found, and while this does technically limit total build options, it also gives a pretty interesting side of cooking.

Also, for Classes specifically, there's only 5 total classes, but they play surprisingly differently due to the classes ALL HAVING THEIR OWN SET OF LEVEL UP STAT UPGRADES. There's a smidge of overlap between Hunter and Thief, but otherwise the individual classes all have unique upgrades relative to the others, meaning the exact same ability loadout on two different classes will still feel different.

This game is comparatively pricey for the survivors genre, but it's absolutely worth it.

So far I have played:

A fast attacking lifestealing monster who only gets scarier the closer I am to death
A tank providing CC and a health bar for a teammate
An assassin that dashes in and kills people with basic attacks before they know what's going on
An assassin that prays my BIG HECKING MOVE lands
A caster with high damage on all abilities just powering through people.

AND I'VE ONLY EVER LOCKED IN ONE CHARACTER.

The only truly negative thing I can say is that custom lobbies only is kinda annoying. Praying we get matchmaking, and I think a ranked mode could work but I'm not 100% on that yet.

The effects are, imo, a bit simpler than what you see in Teamfight Tactics, but this is a really faithful game to turn the autobattler genre into a roguelike.

And hell, they even added asynchronous PVP so you can turn do roguelike PVP if you'd prefer. I personally am not the biggest fan of the mode, but it's a notably different experience for people to play.

Honestly an amazing game, worth every penny.

Biggest pro: Build diversity and "let him cook" potential is about as wild as Path of Exile. Every single combination of Hull, Shield, and Weapon has SEVERAL build directions with branching paths based on what you find.

Biggest con: Movement will mess with your brain while you get used to it. Please mess with controls to find what you like.

Core concept is really basic, but the way everything plays out is a lot more fun that I was first expecting. If you like smart class-building mechanics and/or coming up with unhinged nonsense, you'll probably love this game.

Will note my two personal gripes with the game, and yes it's literally only two things. Neither are a red flag, but they're worth mentioning at least.

1: Progression feels slightly slow when it comes to unlocking stuff. Not sure if it's a skill issue or if the unlock conditions are actually slower than my personal preference, but I do wish unlocking stuff was just a little faster than it currently is.

2: The in-run shop is capable of offering you things that are literally unusable. I don't mind seeing A-specific upgrades when I have open weapon slots that I might slam an A in later, but if I have no open weapon slots and no A weapons taken, I will NEVER make use for A-specific upgrades.

Bit content light compared to what I normally see in EA, but the gameplay is 10/10.

The only nitpick I can say about this is that the judgement/combo stuff is WAY too big, but then I discovered you can just turn off the visuals for those and the game suddenly went from 9/10 to 10/10. Doesn't even impact my accuracy, I actually have world record on one of the Extreme charts at the time of writing this (though probably not for long).
