Early Access Review
A masterpiece of software already, and its only getting started. (Notice I said 'software' and not 'game')

TLDR:
The game is still very early access, so expect clunkiness and many bugs. The foundation is in place for this to be one of the best games ever in terms of a player driven, physics based, creative, open world, open economy, space exploration and exploitation MMO game. I'm loving it already and think its worth the price, but I don't think its for everyone.

Update:
----------
For extra clarification (since some people seem pissed at my original review).
THIS GAME HAS MANY ISSUES.
This game is essentially a CAD program that is an MMO. That right there makes this an awesome game to me, but may be a nightmare to others. The tutorial won't teach you much, you'll need to wiki everything, and you'll need to follow dev posts to avoid game-breaking bugs. Do some research on this game before you buy it to see if it sounds like something for you. Given some more updates, I probably won't have to say that anymore. The devs have rolled out very regular updates following a timeline, but, like any dev, they always have the ability to abandon the game and watch it burn. Only time will tell.
----------

This game has quickly risen to my favorite of all time. If you like anything with tinkering, designing, building, trading, or space in general, then you will like this game. It doesn't pull any punches when it comes to creative complexity so designing spacecraft requires a massive learning curve. However, it is optional since you can just buy ships designed by others. Also, since its an MMO, everything you do is in a dynamic world with everyone else instead of a lonely private game (This does mean that internet is required to play this game). Don't worry, there's still plenty of privacy as well though.

It’s somewhat like Eve Online except that it's physics based, you can build the ships yourself, and you're an actual person (robot) running around instead of a disembodied spaceship.

The game has a player-driven open economy, a huge universe to explore and build in, an amazing physics engine, and the most detailed building system I've ever seen in a game.

Early Access
Keep in mind that this is still very early access, so there are bugs, balancing issues, and chunkiness. That being said, I have high hopes for these developers because they have already made amazing work on this game.

Foundation for the Future
They made their own game engine, complete with some of the best physics I've ever seen. Want to stand and walk around a spaceship while its dog fighting? You can do that no problem. Want 30 people all on the ship walking around? No problem. In the ship tester, I hit a reactor with my pickaxe and it blew my ship up, causing it to fly apart in fragments. Each fragment had its own physics, and the game did it without a single pause to calculate all of it. The developers have definitely created a great foundation for this kind of game.

Performance
That being said, performance is not amazing yet. You'll need a pretty good computer and connection to run the game as it is. Keep in mind that optimization is usually delayed till the end of development. I have a 7-year-old high-end system and I'm running the game very well although there are loading freezes at certain times such as leaving a busy space station. The loading of LODs is what probably needs the most work, causing ships to look low poly when up close and taking a while to load their full detail.

Content
Content is somewhat sparce currently. There isn't much to do in terms of building stations but that's scheduled to change very soon. Despite that, there's easily hundreds of hours of content available in mastering the ship building mechanics, as well as mining, making money, and simply pushing the limits of what is possible in the game. This can be done alone or within huge player corporations.

Did you know they even have a scripting language built into the game? That's right, you can learn some basic scripting and literally program your ship to do things autonomously. Content is limitless when it comes to creativity in this game.

There isn't any campaign or anything, so expect to create your own journey. It’s a vast open world full of things to build, exploit, and experiment with. Don't expect it to hold your hand.

Final Words
It's as close to a sandbox, free form, physics based, space faring, player driven experience as you can get right now in gaming.

Currently there's a lot of people claiming that the research system is too grindy, which it is, but I don't think they realize that its completely optional. You only really need to research something if you're going to industrialize the production of it to make money. You can easily buy the parts or design them yourself and spawn them with raw materials and cash.

I'm already having a blast with this game and it's only in its infancy so far.

Magnificent game.

Casual and hardcore gamers alike will appreciate the lush and detailed content this game offers. Singleplayer and multiplayer work like a charm, its smooth and plays well on lower power machines, the art style is well polished, the interactions are intuitive, the music is wonderful, and the price is very low for what it delivers. I'm not sure what more I could ask for in a game. I honestly can't think of anything negative about Terraria.

PS: The game appears to be locked to 60 fps for people with higher refresh rate monitors. I don't believe there is a way to make it go higher but I haven't looked much into it to be honest.
