A game that has been well-worth the money through both playtime and enjoyment.

While it is enjoyable even alone, you will want a group of friends to play this with. Me and my friends tend to go by the line of "3+" as a good number, although there has been instances where we wished we could have played more than 5.

Due to a lot of content added over time, the ability to play it without spending extra money has been hampered. It's no longer doable to unlock all operators simply by playing, so might want to factor in the extra price for dlc's. It is however still a game, even if you lack operators.

Great game! Bought all games published by the Carpe Fulgur publisher because I liked recettear, and while I at first considered this sub-par to the two others, over time this grew to be my favorite.

The game has a surprising amount of complexity, and while I found Fortune Summoners to be one of the most complex in terms of fighting mechanics, the simplicity of chantelise moveset is deceptive. Sure, there are only so many ways you can swing your sword. But it more than makes up for it in regards to the magic-system and equipments. Especially the magic! Besides that there are enough end-game content and collectibles to keep you enjoyed for a long time, although you are bound to get sick of fishing eventually ;) (there are other things to do however, such as go for secrets and even extra dungeon for after you won).

The magic system is something I think should be mentioned in particular. If you are playign the game and feel lost with it I highly suggest going to a wikia and read some information and tables. But in short it works like this:
You have a limited stack of magic gems that you picked up. When you cast a magic it uses the one *most recently picked up* (it's a "First-In-Last-Out" stack). You can charge the spell, using more gems when casting it. Gems are of different elements, and what gems are used decides the effect. The first gem used (aka the most recently picked up gem) decides the element, and the number of gems belonging to said element the spell is charged with decides the spell. Any other-element gems used to charge modifies the spell somewhat, such as air cloning it or fire increasing damage. Worth noting is that earth-element might seem useless, but a well-used armor is probably among the most useful spells in the game outside of healing.

A good review also has to mention the negatives:
It might look a bit aged graphically, and the controls are quite clunky on keyboard. I didn't find it discouragingly clunky (quite acceptable tbh, although others seem to disagree from what I read), but still highly reccommend using a gamepad. The game also feels quite difficult the first time you play it, but at worst some grinding to buy max-health would let you overcome things if you feel stuck.

As for why this game grew on me as the best among the three from the same publisher (Recettear, Fortune summoners & Chantelise) would probably be because of its replayability and speedrunning enjoyment. I have to admit to this being the only game I have been speedrunning, but that's largely because of its high replayability value (Especially when compared to recettear and fortune summoners). This increases further by the ability to fast-forward dialogue and the surprising depth of its mechanics.

I recommend this game, its hilarious, and even the gameplay is fun! You got 8 elements at your disposal, which you can combine to make spells, which is a very intuitive process. Nothing is better than why you play coop though, with all the tactics, chaos and 'accidental' friendly fire. ;)"
