Since we find ourself in a world (I leave for you to decide wether this means Earth or Universe, doesn't make a practical difference) where we actually are the crowning jewel of intelligence (or sense-making, again no practical difference), the burden of attributing meaning to things falls to us. This would be something we would have grown accustomed to by now, if it wouldn't have been for the idea of a higher being, which attributes (semi-)objective meaning and worth to things. That lack of an external meaning-giver is not equal to there being no meaning, only that meaning is something very movable and subjective to the intricate processes of every single one of the around seven billion supercomputer, which currently semi-independently try to compute the meaning and worth of things. And since we are ultimately trapped within our own construction of reality, everywhichone incomplete, and only poorly able to connect our construction of reality with any other one, since I for example could describe you a feeling I have but never make you feel it exactly as it is to me, we have to accept our seemingly so God-ly ability to elevate everything to meaning or, equally powerful, refuse to do so. It would obviously be easier to just get told what means how much and what worth lies in this or that facette of life, and a lot of people very readily offer or even demand you to accept what they value for themselves. But to accept this would be giving in to a childish reflex, which should have left us with the maturity of our bodies and their acquired ability to resist the storm which rises through a difference in opinion.
