Oh man, what a letdown.
There's a lot of things wrong with this game and I really wish it wasn't like this, given my genuine excitement over a game adaptation of one of my favorite anime. However, I can't shake the feeling I just paid 60 bucks to play an unfinished beta-build.
This game consists exclusively of rough edges and it gets apparent fast. From questionable audio mixing to PS2-era animation quality, it's quite the unpleasant experience. There is hardly any aspect I'd qualify as good enough for a game like this, even in the smaller details.
For example, one of the worst handled mechanics ironically is the main gimmick of the MiA universe - the Curse of the Abyss. The game doesn't keep track of how much you've descended, only any and all upwards movement. This causes you to essentially cap out on said upwards movement by simply oscillating between moving up and down a few inches due to rocky, uneven terrain (which there is quite a lot of). I've had instances of me triggering the curse despite overall moving down, it is that rough. And that is just one problem of many, I don't have the room to get out the whole soapbox here but trust me, this game is unfinished.
This game could pass as impressive for an indie dev's first project but I genuinely believe that, especially given it's pricepoint, this title is quite irredeemable.
