Yes, it's essentially the same game as the original. Better graphics and clearer guidance - I could never remember which aliens worked where, apart from the Grey doctors - and more help in the biodeck to chose your terrain and environment.
There's some very nice additions - the blueprints for each room as an example, but you've still got the freedom to design your own if you want. The factory now makes more sense - you can use the crates from the biodeck to create other products rather than just burning energy, although I thought it strange that it doesn't seem to need workers?
There seems to be more random events - the placing of different types of bombs that need to be dealt with quickly keeps your own toes.
If you loved Startopia this is a worthy successor, in a similar way that Two Point Hospital was a worthy successor to Theme Hospital.
