I'm not especially fond of FPS games, with TF2 and the Borderlands games being the only major exceptions.

Had a blast with the first Borderlands. And yet this one is so much better in every way-- a richer, fuller, more satisfying co-op gunplay 'n lootfest experience. Explore the cray-cray planet of Pandora and fight off its various denizens while you get wrapped up in a zany story involving a cool cast of characters, plus a fairly charismatic and interesting villain.

But do all of the above with yo' buddies! This isn't the sort of game to play solo. I mean... you could, but where's the fun in that? This game is pretty much made for running around and shooting stuff with friends.

Driving controls remain in their same kinda wonky state from the original game, but it's no biggie. I simply dive into the gunner's seat and make my boyfriend or friends do the driving when we play. Nope, not sorry 'bout it. 8D

Here's a fun and minimally educational way to kill some time. It's very simple for a simulation-type game and there isn't much depth to be found, which may or may not be your cup of tea. It's one of those clicker games. But it's a good clicker game.

What I'm trying to say is that this thing is a clickfest, but not a snoozefest. I find it entertaining and addictive.

One big thing to point out is that this is pretty much an *actual* FreeToPlay game, which is to say the game itself is indeed free in its entirety and only minor stuff such as a few fancy cosmetic options and one or two unnecessary 'quick fix' upgrades are available for the game's premium currency (gold bars), which is as in all F2P-model games the currency that costs real money to purchase. There's nothing resembling any abhorrent 'pay to win' or equivalent aspects. All worthwhile content is free and obtained via gameplay. So I've got no gripes there.

I suggest you give this little game a try. It's free, it's fun, and it doesn't take much space on your hard drive. It even runs itself (your capitalist empire continues to earn moola for you even when you're not in-game, provided you've got managers on point for at least one of your business ventures!)

As a lifetime fan of RPGs (especially classic turn-based RPGs) and a returning South Park fangirl, this game really hit the spot for me. Unlike some folks, I happen to think it has plenty of replay value. And it stays so true to the show. Just play it if you haven't already. If you dig RPGs and/or South Park, you won't be disappointed. :D

My only gripe is with some minor technical stuff, but I think that's at least partially because I'm playing this with a keyboard and mouse instead of a controller. Magic (farts yo) and several Abilities are plagued by this issue for me, so I have trouble using them effectively in combat. Fortunately, none of the above are skills I happen to care much about or rely on.

If you haven't picked this up yet, you should. Do it now.

Why did I pick this one up?

Well, the first (and main) reason is that I happen to like goats. They're cool. Goats are one of my favourite animals; they're certainly my favourite herbivorous mammal and just so happen to be my sign as well (Capricorn) so I've always considered them sort of my lucky animal-- in the same way as 34 is my lucky number. But that's neither here nor there.

Aaaanyhow, about the actual game:

It's a sandbox-style indie game, starring you as a very unrealistic goat. It should be fairly obvious by now that in no way is this an actual "goat simulator" that attempts to make you take on a realistic caprine role. It's very wacky and lighthearted and frivolous, and it's meant to be. And it even has a crazy story about a goat in purgatory, believe it or not. Check it out.

As others have stated, Goat Simulator is fun in short bursts. I like sandbox games like this; such games give the player the freedom to run amok and do whatever your twisted little heart desires. The main goal is basically to cause as much destruction and mayhem as possible, and in the most creative ways possible. Try to cook up some wicked combos and you'll score high.

If you dig sandboxy stuff, you'll probably enjoy this. If you like wrecking stuff and ramming innocent (and not-so-innocent) members of the ♥♥♥♥ sapiens species with your trusty set of horns, you'll definitely have a lot of fun with this game as well. It's not a game that's meant to be taken seriously, and I find it rather charming for what it is.

Some background: I was a bit late to the Torchlight II party, having purchased this game several years after its initial release. I also never got a chance to play the original Torchlight. And, all things considered, I'm still relatively new to this game. I've owned it less than a month, which isn't very long at all for a game of this sort.

As for the review...
I'll keep this one relatively short and sweet. I was one of those folks who loved the original Diablo and absolutely adored its sequel Diablo II, but then was bitterly disappointed with many of the choices Blizzard made to the third installment of their beloved franchise. Diablo III isn't a terrible game by any stretch, but it has a multitude of features I strongly disagree with (and in some cases, outright condemn) and in any case, I feel that Blizzard is no longer the dev studio it once was. Which isn't exactly a novel thought by now, nor one I'm alone in thinking, but y'know.. it's a big part of why I'm so pleased to have Torchlight II.

Torchlight II is, due largely to the nature of its creation and concept, a Diablo-style lootfest ARPG very similar (in the way its skill, combat, and item systems are set up) to the oldschool-style ARPGS like Diablo II, which I adored and I largely prefer over games like Diablo III and many other more 'modern' ARPGs. Torchlight II's skill tree system is very reminescent of Diablo II, which I consider a good thing. I personally happen to really dig that system.

The cartoony art style is pleasing to the eye and refreshing for the genre. The addition of the very useful companion critters (called pets) is great, and they can even do your shopping for you so you don't have to make trips to town. Pets aid you effectively in combat, and as an animal/monster lover, I really love that the pets are a feature of the game and especially the fact that they're so far from useless. The way they were designed and the functions they serve (plus how you can modify said pets!) make them a blast.

If you enjoy randomly-generated loot and hack 'n slash gameplay in the Diablo vein, this is for you. This is, in many ways (but not all) what Diablo III should have been.

One of the most critical things for me is the ability to play offline, unlike the third installment of the Diablo franchise. I love to play Torchlight with my friends, but I also enjoy solo runs and offline play when my internet decides to act wonky. I don't want to deal with any sort of DRM ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ when it comes to this sort of game; I already tolerate it when it comes to Path of Exile, which is a stellar game with the exception of that fact. So yeah-- being able to play offline is a really big plus for me, and I count that as important.

The one area I feel Torchlight II is really lacking is in is its story. Lots of others have pointed this out so I won't go into too much detail here, but I agree. And that's a bit of an issue for an RPG, especially if you prefer to play solo. But if narrative drive ain't your thing and you prefer sticking to co-op fun with friends, this game is excellent. The mechanics are spot-on, it's fun, it looks great, and it's simply better than Blizzard's nearest offering.

There is plenty more I could add, but I think I've said enough. I recommend Torchlight II to fans of the genre; it's more than worth its $20 purchase price, and if you get it on sale you're getting way more than your money's worth. This game is hella fun, especially with buddies. Get it and enjoy it.
