I played Risen 1, and despite its age and random crashes, I really enjoyed the Dark Souls level of difficulty with gameplay elements in an RPG that I think were ahead of its time. Then, one day I came across Elex and gave that a try. Wow! The same formula works just as well in a totally different setting?! I started seeing Piranha Bytes is onto something here. I picked up Risen 2 and was amazed yet again. This is a true sequel to Risen. It's in the same world and setting, but the skill tree is totally different. The combat has been fine tuned. The graphics hold up extremely well for a 10 year old game. The ability to travel to different islands provides a nice level of freedom and provides pacing that is more up to the player. All your favorite characters from Risen make appearances. Let us not forgot everything is PIRATE THEMED.

If you enjoy what Piranha Bytes is trying to do, I would give this game a play. If you are hesitant, pick it up on sale. Be warned you will endure the random crash but if you are savvy enough to Google someone has found your problem and has provided a fix. But there is still plenty of content here for you to enjoy with the recipe of Piranha Bytes games replicated to almost perfection.
