Early Access Review
Don't get me wrong, this game has a beautiful premise.
Its a great singleplayer building, design, and survival experience. Its extremely cool to have close-to-scale planets and moons and asteroids that you can approach and land on and harvest from all in real time. Super cool stuff. The gravity and oxygen physics are on point, the campaign and guided levels are a little bit lifeless, but still.

However.
Multiplayer in this game is simply unplayable. Keen Software House has disappointed me since I tried to pour my love into this game 3-4 years ago. Every 5-8 seconds on a multiplayer server, (no matter how good or bad your own PC rig is) there is severe rubbernecking. Any sort of mods cause inccredible lag and here's why.

In SE MP, Every player spawns in around random points of the map. The server then has to render and track and calculate complicated physics equations for every single block, item, voxel, player, etc in a certain radius around them.
This isnt so bad in other multiplayer games because things are scaled down or up accordingly. But in SE, because everything tries to be realistic and to scale, these procedurally generated worlds are huge, with players, bases, ship,s NPC bases and ships all being rendered hundreds of km apart.
Not to mention KSH decided to tweak the way the serverside works and now the simulation speed of the server will slow down to match the weakest system that is connected to the server.
So a smooth, SP game of space engineers will run at a sim speed of 1.0
But a MP game runs consistently lower .5 at the fastest
and if there's anyone who's computer cant handle it the server will slow down to .2 ms
Or just freeze entirely for several seconds
Or just let you move normally for a couple seconds before violently rubberbanding you into the wall of an asteroid.
Not to mention the game is extremely grindy, which I normally don't mind except you do all this work to build something and then some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ unregulated toaster joins, simspeed throttles down, and when the lag stops, your ship is in a million pieces, wasting all of your work.

I guess the worst part about all of this is how long its been this way. Ive been playing space engineers periodically since I bought it and this IS STILL THE SAME ISSUE FOR LITERALLY YEARS JUST IGNORED

This was a fairly short game, provided you are good at solving simple puzzles.
The overall experience was very involved, atmospheric, almost creepy and tense. I found myself holding my breath at some of the background noises and creepy soundtrack. The story remains mysterious, even reading through all of the notes. 7.7/10

This game is very well done, I love the way the story sort of reveals itself naturally throughout the game, and the puzzles are challenging, and the atmosphere is immersive. I would say 9/10.
