TL;DR: Fun combat, great characters, future games have some opportunities to grow. Would Recommend!

Having played The Stick of Truth I never doubted I would enjoy The Fractured But Whole. I think they figured out how to keep the combat true to a turn-based RPG while also adding some new strategies to keep it exciting. There are a lot more customisation options for your character this time round which is always a welcome addition in my book.

I had some problems with attempting to play with mouse and keyboard, I think the controls are more intuitive to a controller, but even with that sometimes the menu screens can feel a little bit clunky and annoying to navigate. Furthermore, despite the game being out since 2017 I still experienced some bugs in completing missions which I didn't expect to run into. My last comment on improvements would be I wish they had added more DLC. I ended up enjoying the DLC and character additions more than I thought, and I think this is an opportunity to leverage character stories and interactions for the player.

All in all, something the South Park games seem to do well is story pacing and characterisation. The pacing felt really natural, I didn't even realise I had been playing for about 13 hours until I had to stop. With that being said, the game also gives you a lot of time outside of the main story to meet new characters, complete side quests, and just explore. All the characters feel authentic to who they are in the show, and their interactions with each other and the world was what I found the most humour in.
