"Save in the name of True Love"

Muv-Luv: Alternative is not only the thrilling conclusion of the journey that EXTRA and Unlimited set out for Takeru, but a wrapping for the entire meaning, themes and point behind Muv-Luv. (Though the ribbon on the entire experience could be improved).

As of writing this review, Muv-Luv: Alternative is rated No.1 on VNDB, and for anyone who plays through these games, it's clear to see where the respect and love for this Visual Novel is coming from. It's not a perfect experience, and it has its faults. Some VA improvements could be made, small pacing issues and curtain storytelling directions that are divisive.

Yet I think it leaves strong feelings in the heart of the reader and for a lot of people who play through this series that feeling leaves a deep imprint on them. If making people think isn't one good purpose of well-produced media, then I don't know what is.

The 100 hours you spend through these three novels builds up so much love, understanding and care for the world and characters of Muv-Luv. The VN shows so strongly where they put so much care into giving these characters the moments, spotlights and story to truly create a unique experience for the reader, you can see how this game raised $1.2+ million on Kickstarter just for an official English translation and cleanup.

If you're reading this and you haven't played EXTRA + Unlimited, you must play those first in the Original Muv-Luv game and stop reading here. If you've already finished them, then Alternative is what will finish the experience. Overall, a great series.

A moving story with a contrast of light and heavy themes with a built out, captivating world. I would genuinely suggest this to lots of people. From the start to the end I really felt for each character and their unique personalities. Great game!

"nep out of 10",

Megadimension Neptunia VII (Victory II). I got to admit, this game is brilliant for both people who are new and experienced with the Hyperdimension Neptunia series. It'll probably provide you upwards of 50 hours of unadulterated gameplay and story through it's unique trilogy based structure with 2(3) seperate endings and Visual Novel styled story telling.

The enemies aren't all that difficult most of the time, but the bosses make up for that. On my first playthrough many bosses I only survived by the skin of my teeth. The post-game content and DLC (Which isn't needed at all to enjoy the game) provides quite a bit of gameplay for anyone looking to get the most out of the game.

Many dungeons, enemies, backgrounds/assets, etc are commonly reused with minor modifications, especially in post game content or further into the story. (This is common in JRPGs)

I personally enjoyed the story and would recommend it to anyone who wants a darker more serious theme from the Neptunia series. The comedic moments were abundant and well placed. (I'll admit, I smiled more than I should've), the story wasn't too predictable and the self-aware nature (Like the rest of the Neptunia series) that many games with bad stories try to use as a coverup was actually executed well and bought everything together. It's definitely a step up from other Neptunia games.

The fan service ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) is less frequent but still strongly present in the game in some scenes (As expected of a Hyperdimension game) if you like fan service you'll be rewarded quite well in the "True Ending"! (Which I only reccomend doing on your 2nd run of the game!)

The combat system is interesting, the skills and the combo attacks aren't always scaled together correctly, and DLC weapons almost "break" the game at some points (Which is your choice to buy and enable anyway). Apart from this I'd say its pretty good for a turned based combat system. The skill animations are interesting, comedic and full of energy until you end up skipping all of them the 10th time you've seen them but you always end up taking a peek every so often especially on that last finishing blow.

Overall, if you're a Neptunia fan why haven't you bought this yet, seriously? If you've played other JRPGs and Visual novels before I'd also reccomend this, it has it all. If you're new to eastern games you might be put off by the hyperbolic nature (anime), post-game grinding and fan-service :^).
