If you do not already know about it ,you should check out "Feel the Snow". It is a really good game that sounds like the kind of game you would like....crafting, building,survival,queststy,different ,cool art,and lots of fun.....etc..

Happy to help out! Here's an early one - use the alt/option key to identify items around you that are interactable. That will help you find underground chests; when you hold the key town the items will be highlighted. Another good early tip: Dig up any food plants you find to collect the seeds and crop - you will want to farm some items eventually. Have fun!

Ridiculous, no? Been on a bit of a break from Steam, but I have been checking in to the forums.

Another early access game that's has been getting better is Edge of space, same 2d as CTW with crafting and mining, building bases. Check it out.

Finally figured out how to break rocks, wohoo! Stranded Deep has some promise. 'Plotwise' there seems to be little to compel you to build structures, and there are reasons why spending a lot of time building is not a good idea -- small islands with limited resources, no real need to sleep, no nighttime hazards. That makes the building component a bit less interesting. No reason you can't do it, not much reason to do it. So, the things that move you forward are hunger and thirst, and the desire to find cool stuff. Which may lead you to a third driving force, injury. So, my bottomline is that it is an interesting, and visually appealing exploration game, with some crafting/survival elements, that may start to look a bit the same after a while without some additional content.

I am stil deciding; I have not put much time into it yet. I will let you know after I get past figuring out how to break rocks. :)

I wonder if the desert world is too big for their algorithms? I discovered a portal I placed about halfway to the east of the shelter (above ground) caused the dwarves to stay in a loop between the shelter and the portal, doing nothing but go through the portal and then run back to the shelter. I suspect they were actually trying to get to a mining spot that happened to be below the portal (underground). But maybe they just wanted the exercise.

I had a neat quirk yesterday. The large desert world I had some stuff marked to replace and the dwarves would walk 1/2 way and turn around back to stockpile. They did this for 30 minutes before I caught on lol. Seems there is a travel distance before they get confused again.

I am trying to sell that as strategy. Think it's working? I myself am playing less, waiting for the next world. Although I am starting to give myself challenges to see how quickly I can move through a campaign.

Once you figure out most of the areas where the AI is lacking and find the workaround, there is only so much to say lol. Its a good game with a few quirks. Hopefully future updates fixes the AI.
