Do you like Poker? Do you like Roguelikes? Do you like building a winning strategy on the fly?

If you answered yes to at least two of those questions, you'll love Balatro.

Solasta is, in my opnion, the most rules-accurate adaptation of 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons to a computer RPG. Just to get this out of the way: This game is NOT Baldur's Gate 3, and it does not pretend to be. Instead, Solasta: Crown of the Magister endeavors to faithfully recreate the 5E tabletop experience, warts and all, within the fascinating fantasy world Tactical Adventures has created. And I love it for that!

This game is a passion project by an small team, and for both good and ill, it looks and feels like it. The character creator is great on the rules side, and does a good job of walking you through how to create a 5E SRD character. However, it's customization options for your character's appearance in game are... disappointing. The character and NPC models, particularly in dialogue, would not look out of place in TES IV: Oblivion, but in the actual combat and puzzle encounters, the model are perfectly serviceable and easy-to-read when zoomed out.

Speaking of combat and puzzle encounters, most of the ones you'll encounter during the main questline are well-crafted and ride that fine line between being challenging for the party while also being manageable for the player. However, the random encounters while traveling can be quite punishing for the unsuspecting. I recall an early playthrough where my level 2 party encountered a dozen bandits on the road and was nearly overpowered by sheer action economy.

As for the story, there are a lot of interesting ideas here, but as a whole, it just comes as a bit generic. I'll try to avoid spoilers here. Early on, you retrieve a magical MacGuffin that becomes central to your further questing through the realm of Solasta. As you find the pieces to restore said MacGuffin, you find out some of the lost history of the realm, including some twists that lead to you defending the realm against an immense evil. It's standard fantasy fare, and for me, it's not the key reason I enjoy this game. That said, the setting of Solasta is an interesting one, and I'm excited to adventure further in this realm in Solasta II.

In summary: If you want a CPRG experience that is as close to a rules-as-written 5E tabletop experience as possible, I cannot recommend Solasta: Crown of the Magister highly enough.

This is the most faithful implementation of the Pathfinder 2E ruleset I've seen. While the included adventure is pretty standard fantasy fare, it's perfectly serviceable and doesn't overstay its welcome. The Dawnsbury Four you play as are fully voiced, and funny to boot. Further, since the game is fully moddable, you can implement your own adventure/encounters if the default adventure isn't enough. For a $5 game, this is well worth your time.

This game. I expected a silly Telltale game set in the Borderlands universe, and for the first three episodes, was not disappointed. Then, episode four comes along with that absolute gut-punch that I will not spoil, and suddenly, I actually shed a tear. And then that final episode... wow. Seriously, go play it and prepare to feel more than you thought possible.

What is there not to recommend? By far my favorite Elder Scrolls game yet, with improved combat, a larger world, and nearly all the RPG elements you could ask for (and if whatever it is happens to be missing or broken, there's a mod that puts it in or fixes it.) Basically, prepare to have your life consumed, cause it's just that good.

An excellent old-school-style adventure game - in fact, it's almost perfect. The story is great, the puzzles are challenging but intuitive, and the ability to switch between characters is done well. The only drawback of this game is its infuriating combat mechanic, which is poorly designed and unnatural. Thankfully, combat sequences are few and far between, and the story more than makes up for it. It's one of the few indie games I would recommend at full price.

Magicka is a hilariously satirical take on the typical fantasy RPG/Action game, and is ridiculously fun to play. The bugs that crippled the game early on are fixed now and it's time to put on your wizard robe & hat. Be warned: the single-player game does have a bit of an initial learning curve and is challenging even on the tutorial level. Once you get used to the control scheme for casting spells, though, you'll be having too much fun turning goblins & beastmen into chunky gib salsa to notice. Where this game shines, though, is in the multiplayer modes: Online Adventure (read: Co-op), Survival, Arena & PvP modes provide variety and the frenetic pace of dodging enemies (and often, your own teammates' attacks) makes for a great, quick multiplayer experience. The base game is a good deal at $9.99, but catch the Complete Pack on sale if you can, since the Vietnam and Marshlands DLC's extend the game with new missions & stories. Great, addicting game - I give it 9/10.

MNC is often compared to TF2; this is a inaccurate comparison. While both are class-based team shooters with a lot of zaniness, that's about where the similarities end. MNC is more a fusion of "tower defense" gameplay with a third-person shooter, as your team defends its "money ball" against attacks from both robot and human enemies using your own robots, turrets, and weapons ranging from traditional assault rifles to dual miniguns to jet engine guns. Basically, if you like TF2, you'll probably like MNC, but don't expect the same old gameplay. Definitely worth your time.

If you like RPG and/or shooters, Borderlands is an excellent FPS-RPG hybrid. Fun gameplay, beautiful stylized graphics, and a willingness to not take itself too seriously make Borderlands a must-play. Basically, if you liked Fallout 3 but didn't like the oppressive atmosphere, Borderlands is what you're looking for.

New Vegas fixes many of the problems of Fallout 3 while still retaining a similar feel and being readily accessible. Tons of fun, just play it!
