Introduction
- Nioh 2 is sequel to Nioh 1...?
- Also 'Souls' like

Combat
- Like Dark Souls 3 with Uchigatana
- Got 3 stances, high stance for high damage but slow movements, then also mid and low stances
- Main thing is stamina bar, you can recover your stamina quickly if you learn the mechanics

Story
- No VaatiVidya videos for this game
- Something about power and demons?

Difficulty
- HLTB says ~45 hours, it took me 88 hours since I am trash
- Harder than any other 'souls-like' games I have played
- Slightly above Dark Souls 3 but below Dark Souls 1 in difficulty
- Borderline sadistic

🐍 🐍 🐍 ♥♥♥♥ THE SNAKE BOSS! 🐍 🐍 🐍

Soundtrack
- It exists

Character Creater
- The BEST character creator out there
- On par with Code Vein's
- 14 hours of my playing time was in the character creator!
- Made plenty of waifus
- I will die single...

Conclusion
- Played Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro?
- Want to make your life more miserable than it already is?
- Then this game is perfect for you!

- Look at Xbox/PS controllers, idiots argue for hours which one is better, yet the only difference is where the D-Pad or Left joystick locations are. The truth is, all those controllers provide more similar experience than different.

- The Steam controller had different ambitions to everything on the market, while it fails in some aspects, it certainly succeeds in others!

- You can control your Windows PC

- You can play a game that could never be played with a controller (i.e Total War: Three Kingdoms) since a single button on the Steam controller can have multiple values and trigger-activation settings

- Dont want to set up a custom configuration garbage? You can just use other people's template using Steam Big Picture mode, it even sorts all community templates by number of hours everyone with Steam Controller has used those template.

- More importantly, you can inject Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's motion control in any game with just 4 button presses...

- 2 back buttons are absolutely fantastic

- Typing experience is a 'breakthough' for controller typing (The PS5 and it's controller take a lot of inspirations)

- Its plasticy design could certainly be improved

- While this is not for everyone or even every game, I find using the Steam controller for Souls and Souls-like game absolutely fantastic! If people gave this a try instead of judging at first sight, I am sure many more would have appreciated it!

- 4 years on, and I think I will still using it for another 10 years atleast!

I am hoping that Valve learnt their lessons, and they release even more robustly built controller in the future!
Thank You Valve and to all their engineers for this!

WILL UPDATE REVIEW AFTER COMPLETION, THIS IS MORE LIKE INITIAL IMPRESSIONS RIGHT NOW, SO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE WALKING INTO

Background

- Played Nier;Replicant originally on PS3 because it was the cheapest game on Amazon , I was really into JRPG, I swear!!! But only got ending A.
- Played Nier;Automata, and absolutely love the hell out of it
- Nier;Automata PC port was sub-par and within few days a mod came out fixing the problems (shameful disgrace Square Enix -_-)
- Flashforward to 2021, Microsoft releases a new port on Xbox Game Pass
- People get pissed and start review bombing Nier;Automata on Steam
- Digital Foundary makes a video explaining how the new port is actually worse since F.A.R mod fixes most issues on Steam's Nier;Automata version but cant on the Xbox Game Pass version
- Square Enix realizes PR disaster 4 years afterwards and says they will update the game

- We already know the PC ports of Nier;Automata was subpar

This Game's PC Port

- Well surprise this is a 'OKish' port
- This game uses the 'white haze screen filter thing' that Zelda:BoTW uses on the Switch. Makes the game look ugly AF
- Here are the comparisons of that being somewhat removed using ReShade (easy to use generic tool to modify graphics of any game):

> Normal vanilla game- https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1790720571137453167/66B754BE810A1B24147125FE520D75D79BAD2922/

> Modified with ReShade- https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1790720571137452947/1F54C56219EC6338E7718CF46303A47A5CBD0962/?imw=2048&imh=1152&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=true

- I changed the settings for 'DeHaze' and increased Vibrancy
- But you dont to increase vibrancy

- Game's animation is tied to FPS -____-
- Limit your FPS 60 using Riva Tuner Statistics server (comes with MSI AfterBurner) or use GPU control panel

- If you have dual monitor setup (I have 1080p and a 4K monitor) if you want to play on 4K but dont see 3840 x 2160 in graphic settings, go to Window's Display Settings, then make your 4K monitor 'Display 1' and relaunch your game.

Soundtrack

- Absolutely amazing but I think Nier;Automata's soundtrack is still the best soundtrack out of all games

Gameplay

- Combat is much much improved from the original version where you had to just roll around
- Graphics arent the best but still very good (when using ReShade)

Story

- Great story-line, especially ending E was a phenomenal experience! Made the grind of getting there absolutely worth it!

Conclusion - 8/10

- A great game with really good storyline, if you have played Nier;Automata this is extremely worth it as you will see a lot of similarities with the world

- I still believe Nier;Automata is one of the best games ever made and my favorite game, I may be biased here but Nier;Automata was an improvement over this original Nier game in every regard, from soundtrack to story to gameplay, all of it was absolutely phenomenal! I wish I can get a memory wipe so I can play that game again :'(

Before You Start the Game Look up How to Get all Endings first!

Introduction
- Its a game where you run fast and cut people with the weeb sword

Gameplay
- Fluid as silk
- Was a delight to play on my new 144Hz 1080p secondary monitor!
- Wall running and Sekiro's grapple hook was amazing

Graphics
- Just like Cyberpunk, the use of colors and the general atmosphere is...breathtaking
- I want more games to have AMD's FidelityFX

Storyline
- The storyline isnt anything special, its a generic story, you mainly buy this for the gameplay not the story

Things That Could Have Improved
- It took me ~9 hours to beat the game, while I enjoyed it, I would have preferred a longer game
- The story could have been improved significantly if the length of the game was longer

Conclusion
- Entire time I felt like a BOSS...
- Until each levels finished and I had double the death of everybody else :'(

7/10 - A good game and hopefully receives some sort of a sequel to dramatically improve the concept further!
Buy it on next Steam Sale if you can

EDIT: This game is now on Xbox Game Pass, apparently its not the same port as this, Microsoft ported it themselves instead of just releasing Steam version! They also fixed many issues too!

Background and Introduction

I have played Nier Gestalt back on PS3, why? Well because it was the cheapest second hand game on Amazon...
I have also played Nier:Automata back in 2017 (PS4) and this is my second time playing this game.

Nier:Automata is one of the best games I have ever played and in many departments I believe that no other game even comes close!

Nier:Automata is set ~10,000 years after the first Nier game, therefore playing the first Nier game is not necessary and is a spiritual-successor. Being set long after humans were around, the game explores what exactly is the difference between android/robots developing intelligence and awareness compared to humans.

The problem is that this concept has been done to death in every medium and this game has no interest in repeating this dead concept. Nier:Automata differentiates itself by showing not just one-side of the coin but rather quickly switching between both sides of the coin. Rather than straight-up say something is bad or good, it tries to poke holes in our current logic and leaves the interpretation up to the players.

Story = 10/10
Minor Spoilers Only!

One of THE BEST story in video games that I have ever experienced! Only other game that is even comparable to this game in terms of storyline would be Danganronpa 2 in my opinion (which I recently played).

First 2 routes are same story but from alternate perspectives while the third route is a sequel to them both. To experience the storyline you will need to play all routes of the game.

First storyline follows 2B and 9S and shows everything from 2B's perspective about how she tries to hide her emotions eventually begins warming up to alternate ideas after all she goes through with her new partner named 9S.

Looking at Steam global achievement, 40% of individuals who started this game, achieved ending A, however, only 28% achieved ending B. To all these individuals, THE STORY CONTINUES! LOAD THE SAME SAVE FILE AGAIN!

The second storyline is the shortest one. It follows the same story as before but from the perspective of 9S, this time you are hacking into enemies and even bosses and along the way. You didnt really care much about whats going on and why you are fighting these enemies to begin with, this route shows many perspective including the enemy's perspective to give more insight of what you have already experienced before, it diverges slightly near the end.

Both 9S and 2B go through drastic and f***ed up situations in prior play-throughs, and it all culminates into the third route of the game, a sequel to both prior routes and the BEST route in the game. I cannot explain much without going into spoiler territory since its a very story-dependent route but I have to say this...I wish I can forget this, I have tried for past ~4 years but this is a type story that you will remember for the rest of your life.

Gameplay = 9.5/10

Nier:Automata does not have a 'static' gameplay, when you play Call of Duty its a FPS game when you begin and end as a FPS with no change in gameplay, in comparison, Nier:Automata's gameplay can be described as a 'dynamic' or 'fluid'. It has open-world exploration, RPG, hack & slash combat, side-scrolling, fighting 'Mortal-Kombat like' boss battles, bullet-hell of many different varieties and many more! It is not something thrown in mindlessly, their placement is very unique and what this game does astonishingly well is flow seamlessly between many different genre of gameplays which I have never experienced in any other game before.

There are lots of different types of swords to mix and match and the combat is flows fluidly in battles. It is not an easy mindless hack & slash but not as hard as Souls-like, it hits the perfect spot of being something in-between and being adaptable to how the player wants to customise and play. Plug-in chips allows you to change many gamplay components, you can remove your healthbar chip and using that free space plug in a new "auto pickup items" chip, there is a plethora of different ways to customize.

Soundtrack = 10/10 (If an Absolute Perfection Existed, This Would be it)

THE GREATEST PART OF THIS GAME! Ofcourse, it is hard to describe music directly in words but if I try to these are words/phrases, EAR-GASM, EAR-J_I_Z_Z, EAR-WAX DANCE and INTENSE EARDRUM MASSAGE.

When I finished the game nearly 4 years ago I believed I will forget about the soundtrack within half a year and never come back to it, just like other games, damn I was wrong!

NIER:AUTOMATA HAS THE BEST SOUNDTRACK IN VIDEO GAMING HISTORY! No other game I have played made me listen to its music for so long, but this game has made me listen to its soundtrack for 4 years and still counting!

Nearly all soundtracks are made up in a made-up fictional language.

Some of my favorite soundtracks from this game:
- The Tower
- Voice of no Return
- The Sound of the End
- Copied City
- Possessed by Disease
- Crumbling Lies
- Amusement Park
- Vague Hope
- Emil (Despair)
- A Beautiful Song
- Wretched Weaponry

I have lost count how many thousands of times I have heard those and other soundtracks from this game.
If I have missed any good ones, please comment on this review!! I would love to hear more!

Pc-Port's Controversies = 4/10

Sadly this is the one and only side of this game which is not as good. A lot of people have given this game a negative review due to this very reason.

When the game was released on the PC, it wasnt a good port. Many textures are low resolution on the PC, there aren't many graphic options and many the optimization is below average too.

There have been no updates to this game on the PC to fix any issues, they released it and forgot about it...for a while. You see the game was re-released as 'Game of the YoRHa' edition, but when you re-release the game you expect an update fixing some issues right? Well nope, they're making a Bethesda move. On top of that if you owned the original version there is no way to upgrade to this re-release and have to buy the game again...

The PC version suffers from Ambient Occlusion problem, the process is too demanding for little to no difference in graphic quality. If you turn it off from the graphics menu, it doesnt actually turn it off. You have to use the F.A.R mod for this.

I think that in-game cutscenes are running at 1600 x 900 resolution + bad compression takes 24GB of space
-__-

they have abandoned the PC version.

Conclusion and Final Score = 9/10

The score is not an 'average' but I do not think it is correct to ignore all good aspects for just one bad aspect. I honestly believe this is one of THE BEST GAME EVER MADE (in my opinion ofcourse). The only thing even holding this game down is the PC-port but I honestly believe that no matter which platform you play this on, you will get a really good experience either way.

I highly recommend this game and believe it is one of my favourite game to ever exist and in many departments, it is outstanding.

The Future and the Past...

The next Platinum-Game's project was Astral Chain. It had the highest Meta-Critic score for the Nintendo Switch platform, I bought an entire system just for this one game, and I was disappointed greatly by it, and do not recommend it.

I have been searching for a similar game for the past few years but unfortunately, it's in a class of its own...

MODS I Used

Downloaded from Nexus Mods
- F.A.R Mod (MANDATORY, takes 1 min to install + configure)
- NieR Automata Re-Encoded Movies
- 2B - Butterfly Retexture
- Clean ReShade Preset
- Bande Desinee (disable this if 2B - Butterfly - Retexture mod doesnt work)
