Great sandbox games give you an objective, several tools on how to accomplish it, and tells you go wild.

There's some really bad jankiness going on with the AI system not working currently with huge spawns occurring in areas seconds from where you just visited, mutants being bullet sponges, graphical glitches, and the economy being out of whack.

The English dub is also kind of terrible unless you really love cockney accents, playing it on Ukrainian sounds much better

But like any Stalker game it's very fun at its core because as it demands you get on its level and master it with skills you get as a player from just playing it.

So I might say don't bother right now unless you're already a fan and know what to expect. But those of us who love the zone already were expecting this kind of stuff.

Good but a caveat that Act 3 feels much more like an early access version, with an abrupt ending, plots and quests that don't really go anywhere, extreme performance dips and bugs. With clear indications of significantly cut content to make the deadline.

Even though most of the game is extremely good it doesn't hurt to wait for the inevitable redux edition that Larian has a track record of doing.

Some fairly strong game breaking bugs, and extremely boring tutorial, stealth mission, and finale aside.

Aliens: Dark Descent is about as close as we can get to a playable James Cameron's Aliens. Once everything clicks together it's really great trying to work the semi open levels to your advantage and manage your marine's superior firepower while always being on the edge of total game over man. If this game came out instead of Colonial Marines back in the day, I would have had a happier childhood.

I now sympathize with Lt.Gorman, the lack of suppressing fire really did get those marines killed.

Made me feel much smarter than I actually am.

While this STC construct has been blessed by the holy God Emperor, it's machine spirit has not been properly maintained with an application of holy oils and thus is prone to temperamental outbursts.

FF tactics-like gameplay with comic book semi procedural generation events.

The campaigns are surprisingly lengthy and there's quite a few of them.

It's also really pretty funny at times to boot.

I love this game but I'm pretty sure the developer either died or is in some kind of serious trouble. He has a public face as a part time dentist and keeps a facebook profile. That hasn't been updated in a year. His online username twitter hasn't updated in a year either.

The Discord is radio silent with rumors that the mods are trying to hide something or are equally not in the know.

This is pretty much turning into a real life mystery case as seen in the game.

Now what's there is pretty good and I don't regret playing it as it's masterful. But The Case of the Missing Solo Developer is also very concerning.

***Update***

He has just tweeted as of Oct 14 2021. So I'm glad to see that he's ok and this mystery can be solved towards the lighthouse. The game will hopefully start to progress once again.
