The game was playable, albeit buggy, when I bought it. I had fun, it's actually quite a great time, you can find plenty of other great reviews for the gameplay aspects.

But now it cannot be played in the state I bought it in. Do not let publishers worm their greedy little tendrils into your games and corrupt them.

This is easily the best deduction mystery video game that has ever been made. Nothing is specifically called out for you, and your only tool is a detailed guidebook that tracks your findings without revealing anything in particular.

You will have need to pay attention to the crime scene and the audio, you will need to make guesses, you will need to pore over your notes to find things you missed. You'll sometimes need to put yourself in the mind of the characters, or make assumptions you might think are wrong. There isn't much else to be said, aside that this game is made so that you cannot effectively brute force it and, in fact, wouldn't want to anyways. You have all the information you need.

Minor mechanics spoilers:
This game only progresses when you make multiple correct guesses. It is quite generous, accepting multiple answers for some of your guesses. This means the final deduction, even the correct ones, can be different between playthroughs. Surprisingly, this still works into the lore of the story. It also means just going over your notes again is more effective than trying to brute force several tens of thousands of permutations.

Early Access Review
This may be the perfect game to introduce people to VR games. Everyone gets music, everyone understands swinging a stick. Many get why people play things like DDR, Rock Band or Guitar Hero. Splice all that together and you get one hell of an addicting game with a low entry point and a high ceiling for enjoyment. Add to that the mods that allow custom maps and an active community and you have an ever expanding list of songs. And it isn't even a full release yet. If you have a supported headset, get this, now.

Doesn't hurt that this is pretty good for exercise. Really get into the song, move your body and put some effort into those swings. Before you know it 90 minutes is gone and not only did you do some decent exercise for the entire thing, but you had fun doing it, and thats what keeps you coming back.

I chose Monika but the others are nice too.

Overall a pretty different and clever VN and definitely worth your time, even if you aren't into these sorts of games. As long as you choose Monika, that is.

I don't think I've ever had a game where I played the story and gameplay to completion and enjoyed all of it, and yet...

I sort of wish for the ignorance of the demo release. Just to go back to the time where it was just an awesome action game with an awesome character and some confusing plot points that would be unveiled in the main game. But now that I've played it, I can't go back... So many feelings... What did you do to my heart, Nier?

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't play it. Just be ready for the heartache, and remember that in Nier, the credits roll never actually means you finished the game.

It's a 2D, randomly generated platformer adventure game. I've put more time into it then just about any other game I have played in the last two or three years.

If you enjoy platformers, adventure games, battling enemies and bosses, its worth picking up.

Stop reading this and get the game. I am not even kidding. Play it now. I have never played another action-platformer like it. Excellent art, excellent sound, excellent story, excellent gameplay, excellent whatever. It's all excellent. Now go play it.
