Even the positive comments have something negative to say.

The game itself is fun for the 10-12 hours it takes to beat the campaign, and then it's over. Base building is close to useless because of how short the game is (I finished my base and then proceeded to beat the game 30 minutes later, at which time it force ends your community and recommends starting all over again).

The campaign is literally *spoiler below*

Defeat the 10 plague hearts and then spend 25 minutes finishing your leader's legacy mission, followed by the game ending. I had fun the full 12 hours I played the campaign because they do a great job of not foreshadowing the fact that it's an extremely short *campaign*. You will have fun with this game, but the negative review is based on the fact that they missed out on making this a great zombie game with just a few additions.

I'm sure you've seen a lot of reviews saying career mode is awful.

Those reviews are correct. This game is a stain, do not buy it.

There is no combination of character customization that will keep your player from looking ugly as ****.

I am very happy to take my money back from EA.

There aren't a lot of games that are worth far more than they are priced. This is one of those games. Highly recommend.

It's been a 5+ year journey for this game (more if you include when it was still being developed as a mod), and it's finally to a point where I can confidently recommend it. There is a negative stigma around this game, and rightfully so. It was poorly developed and greatly neglected it's first 4 or so years and this recommendation is in no way, shape, or form warranted because of any improvements the Bohemia Interactive studio made to the game. This game was made great by passionate modders who wanted to help this game reach its true potential, and the vision we all saw for it when we became fixated with it back in the early days of the mod.

One condition to my recommendation:
+this only applies to modded servers, this recommendation is not for official servers. Modders took this game to the next level and I would assume official DayZ is still pretty broken. If you are a modder and are reading this, thank you for making this game a possibility for all of us.

1. You will no longer spend 95% of your deaths starving or dying because you fell off a 3 foot ledge.
2. Yes, there are plenty of heavily populated servers to play on (through DZSA Launcher, a 3rd party DayZ modded server launched) at the time of this review.
3. Bugs are minimal and usually not game breaking. The worst I've experienced is the game not recognizing that I took something out of my hands so it won't let me pick anything up - this, like 99% of the other bugs, is solved simply by relogging.
4. Is it still a running simulator? Yes and no. You will run for decent periods of time, however most modded servers have now added cars and helicopters, and because of the common 100 player server cap, your long runs will no longer be without some sort of PvP or excitement.
5. Do hackers still exist? Yes, but to a very small degree. I haven't encountered a blatant hacker in weeks, I never see people complaining about one in global chat, and if there is one, the staff of one of the well managed servers will surely ban and blacklist them.

Heavy amounts of modding including:
+Completely functional traders/safezones
+Completely functional economy and currency system to accompany these trader outposts.
+Fairly bug free vehicles (although this can't necessarily be said when the server is completely full).
+Massive amounts of weapons, from low grade to military grade.
+Massive amounts of clothing, armor, and accessories (most players look different from each other, you tend to have a lot of creative freedom here, especially when shopping at the traders).
+Completely functional base building - this one is crucial to the longevity of the game - you now have an end game, which is to store currency, weapons, vehicles, etc. You are no longer limited to what you can carry on your back, which actually makes late game looting viable, as opposed to running out of fun things to do and going to the coast to kill fresh spawns because you're so bored out of your mind that it's time to uninstall.
+Airdrops - which heavily stimulate PvP for late game players.

3 Years ago I would have given this game a 3/10, and I would now give it a 9/10. Whether it's worth the money is up to you, but I have gotten more than my money's worth in just the last 2 weeks - so there is a good chance it won't disappoint.

*This recommendation is ONLY towards modded servers and does not make any suggestions about official servers*

I'll update this review after I have more hours, but as of now, this game is close to worth the $40. There are some clunky movement issues (like troops being delayed slightly), but other than that the game is pretty bug free. As for the gameplay, the multiplayer on this game is basically identical to COH2, which I thought was odd. Nonetheless, the graphics are 9/10 for an RTS, combat is 9/10, and I will come back with info on the campaign.

If you enjoy RTS games, this is a very good choice and can only get better considering it was released yesterday from the time of this review. Cheers.

Complicated at first, but overall well worth the money (although I did get it on sale). Lots of research options, at least 100. Tons of military options and overall directions you can go with the game. Diplomacy is a huge part of the game and so is expanding your empire while maintaining a stable economy.

It's an awesome game. Unfortunately, the sticker price isn't accurate. You basically need the added content to play, so this game comes out to a total of about $150. In short: Great game, scumbag developers.
