I can't say for how long I've been looking for a game with a decent spell-crafting system and I'm happy to announce that I found it!

Mages of Mystralia hits the perfect spot, providing great number of options while creating spells, while being easy to understand and use. By far the best part of the game is just to create abusrd spells which might as well classify as nuclear weapons huh.

That being said game has several issues - some of the puzzles are jank af, even if you have everything needed to complete them it might take you unnecessarily long time to do so. Enemy variety is pretty poor with high use of reskinned goblins with different elemental powers. Pacing is on the slower side, you only start getting "Fun" runes closer to the middle of the game, before that your options are quite limited. Speaking about runes, games expects you to do a lot of backtracking if you want to get them all, which I'm not a huge fan of. I would have preferred to collect the missing stuff in NG+ (alongside nuking the ♥♥♥♥ out of early game bosses), but it is sadly absent from the game.

Only buy under heavy discount - game is only 2.5 hours long. just enough to get it out of the refund range...

+ Combat itself if very enjoyable, i think devs made a fantastic job making a first person souls-like combat. Fights are fast paced, there's no stamina bar nor cooldown on dash (dodge). It's quite easy to loose yourself in a violent loop of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ up!

- Severe lack of content. Game only has 3 levels. While first two might take you an hour or so to beat, last one is laughably short, consisting of handful of arenas and semi scripted sequence where you are given an OP mace, one-shotting everything. You would expect an epic boss fight to follow, but no - you just activate a switch and the game just ends.

Speaking of bosses, there are only 2 in the entire game...and one of them is just a ornstein and smough ripoff lol. But I must say that the fights themselves are pretty fun and provide adequate challenge (I completed the game on Elderborn difficulty and recommend you do the same).

I don't know what people who say there's nice weapon variety are smoking. There are basically 3 types of weapons in game (Heavy swords and maces/ jack of all trades sword/ fast daggers). Yes you find a handful of weapons during the game, but they are just re-skins with increased DPS. There's literally 0 reason to use previous weapon of the same type once you found an upgrade.

Game has an OK enemy variety, but I dont like the fact that almost all enemies from first level are reskinned for level 2 and level 3 doesnt have ANY unique enemies at all!

Overall a very short, be it a pleasant experience. Once again, only buy this if you know what you are getting yourself into or....just refund after 2 hours of play, its not like you are missing out on much. I hope devs will be able to make a sequel to this thing which would have ACTUAL content - as gameplay basis is here and it is strong.

Got the game for free as owner of the original.

TLDR - good game with 2 hours of content padded out to ~6-8 hours

The original game introduced quite a unique game mechanic, but lacked in content. So I was very excited to see that sequel is in the works, as the only thing they needed to do is to add more levels and story. Easy....right?.....right guys?

W R O N G

Clearly what this game needed in the eyes of devs are same dozen of levels being repeated throughout whole game, with big punishments for death. Each batch of levels are represented as a "nod" and will contain 4-10 levels from the map pool, which again consists of dozen levels max. If you run out of lives (you would usually have 2-3 on hands). You are being sent to the start to do whole nod ALL OVER AGAIN. Died during last map of the nod? Too bad buddy, brace for 10-15 min resets. This becomes extremely frustrating closer to the end of the game (people who tried to do nodes 8A/B/C etc. will know), where you are sent on a literal gauntlet of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of maps with way more enemies you can handle at one time - just lazy game design.

Moment to moment gameplay is awesome! Pretty much a perfected formula from the first game with a couple of new additions thrown in. Only annoying thing is that your node "runs" are heavily RNG dependant, as you are getting random temporary upgrades throughout the "run" from the pool which keeps increasing throughout the game. In theory this should make you adapt your strategy on the fly, but in reality the upgrades are either top tier or complete BS, no middle ground whatsoever. And yes, you WILL have runs with only bad upgrade options - just deal with it.

Story is as pretentious as the last game, basically we still don't know anything, delivery is lazy at best. AND GET THIS - YOU HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR GAME OPEN FOR 8 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ HOURS (OR SPEEDHACK) IF YOU WANT TO GET ONE OF THE ACHIEVMENTS AND GO FOR NG+. YOU ARE NOT EVEN PLAYING DURING THAT TIME - JUST LITERALLY W A I T I N G

DEVS, GET YOUR ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ HEADS FROM YOUR BUTTS. IF YOU HAVE A COOL GAME CONCEPT IT DOESNT MEAN YOU CAN DO ♥♥♥♥ LIKE THAT, CMON - COMMON SENCE ?????
