Weaves are a terrible game mode, poorly balanced and gets old fast. New mission is rather samey. Beastmen are annoying and unfun to fight against. New weapons are pay-to-win.

First impression is great. Weapon roles feel consistent, movement is fluid and not too difficult to perform (there is no advanced tech like rocket jumping or bunny hopping), and the visual/audial information isn't overwhelming. However, there are a few hiccups that I find annoying:
  • Air movement feels sluggish and out of place, attempting to double jump with any movement key held instead performs a pitiful air-dash
  • Reloading feels out of place in an arena shooter and feels like it adds unnecessary downtime
  • Health regeneration plays an annoying sound
  • Wall-running isn't explained and I still don't really get how to do it in the first place
  • Lack of even a simple tutorial
  • No power-ups (aside from rocket launcher) or armor on map to encourage players to explore and create their own routes
  • You have to press W to pick up things, you cannot simply run over dropped weapons to get ammo
Other than that, very promising game! Hope to see more soon.

Darktide v. Vermintide: A Brief Comparison

As a Darktide refugee, frustrated with the current state of the game and lack of communication from the developers, I've elected to switch to Vermintide 2. Overall, I'm having much more fun with progression, and I'd like to highlight some key differences I've noticed between the games.

Pros:
  • Significantly more user-friendly progression
  • Non-gacha crafting system
  • Characters just as lovable as Darktide's personalities
  • Still a bangin' soundtrack
  • Hub world that's fun to explore and not nearly as annoying to traverse
  • Harder difficulty, for those looking for a challenge
  • Grimoires and tomes/scriptures are actually worth picking up
  • Performance and loading times are significantly better whilst still looking gorgeous

Differences:
  • This game is decidedly more choppy; although most classes have ranged weapons available, they are significantly weaker compared to Darktide's ranged options, and mostly reserved for picking off key targets. Get used to melee.
  • Characters are overall far weaker compared to Darktide. Active ability cooldowns are significantly longer and there aren't as many ways to reduce them.
  • Temporary health takes the place of Toughness here - you gain Temp HP via killing and staggering enemies in melee. It still functions are part of your health pool, but drains over time while out of combat.
  • Maps are far larger. Tomes and Grimoires spawn in set locations. Grimoires occupy the buff consumable slot.
  • Bardin uses Dwarven words to call out enemies. Better learn what they mean, azumgi.
  • You can't have more than one of the same character, so get used to playing at least four classes - preferably all five

    Cons:
    • Game is less visually polished - animations have a noticeable stiffness to them, though still serve fine
    • Cosmetics feel less snazzy
    • Missing sound cues that I found important in Darktide - most notably, sounds for when players go down or are killed, and active ability cooldowns when they're ready
    • Subtitles don't match up with the dialogue being spoken annoyingly frequently
    • Paid DLCs required to get the full experience - however, I would recommend against buying them unless you seriously do plan on putting hundreds of hours into the game, and even then, get them on sale
    • Cosmetic MTX shop in a paid game
    • Blightstormers are deadly and nearly impossible to spot amidst the chaos of combat

Overall, I find the experience to be significantly better then Darktide, and highly recommend ditching that game in favor of this one.

These puzzles are designed exactly as if Valve themselves had gotten together and made a Portal 3. Well done!

Still the best of the genre after years of existing.

I'm still not convinced this is real, but it is surprisingly good.

The core gameplay loop used to be fine until there was a bug that made Poxbursters silent and introduced a whole slew of other problems. Stuff that's already been here includes a total lack of driving story we see ingame, awful performance, even worse loading times, a lack of communication from the developers, more MTX despite the game still being in this terrible state, and a gacha crafting system.

I have lost faith in Fatshark's ability to make a good video game following this absolute embarrassment. Don't buy it, no matter if it becomes "good" again in the future. It'll ultimately be a waste of money. I instead recommend Deep Rock Galactic or Helldivers 2, even Vermintide 2, another FS game that has way less problems.

If you liked Risk of Rain 1, the remaster is worthy of your time and money! It's everything I expected and then some, and definitely something I'm going to be dumping dozens of hours into. Even if you only played modded RoR1, don't worry - official modding support is planned for the near future, and online co-op isn't nearly as big of a pain to set up as it was in the original release!

However, there are a few gripes I have at the moment:
- The big one is that Providence Trials have their difficulty all over the place. Some of them it's really easy to get even the par score on, while others are either extremely unintuitive or just plain frustratingly hard. This is mitigated somewhat by the fact that you don't need to do them to unlock alternate character skills, but there are still items and skins locked behind Providence Trials.
- Being able to move while shooting is a mixed bag. Sometimes it's useful, sometimes I really want to turn around, but I have to wait until my character finishes their shooting animation before being allowed to.
- Visual clarity feels overall a bit worse than the original game.

Other than that, it's awesome and I can't recommend it enough!
