Turbo Overkill is MASTERPIECE. Top 5 FPS of all time.

The guns, movement, level design, and music are all amazing.

Weapons are awesome. They all have situational uses and can be upgraded.

The levels are huge, but never feel sparse.

Movement is FAST. You can double jump, double blink, triple jump, wall jump, grapple to guys, and teleport too. Its all so chaotic and satisfying, it just works.

This game borrows every good thing from all the great FPS’s before it, and then adds like 5 new things that I didn’t know I wanted, but can’t live without now that I know they exist.

You have a chainsaw for a leg that launches you forward and insta-gibbs the weaker guys. It is totally overpowered but also not over powered because the game is so well designed.

The game builds and builds, and the 3rd episode is incredible.

The boss fights are challenging and an absolute blast.

You can replay this game a million different ways.

The design decisions for this game were: IS IT FUN? IF YES, ITS IN THE GAME.

You can dodge every enemy projectile, so there’s never one guy sniping you across the level to artificially make the game harder, its all skill based.

You can see influences from dozens of other FPS’s and Scifi movies: Serious Sam, Ultrakill, Borderlands, Unreal Tournament, Doom Eternal, Overwatch (particularly Tracer, McCree, Lucio), Bioshock, Blade Runner, Duke 3D, System shock, Ion Fury, and Judge Dredd.

The good: This game pulls you in from the beginning and is awesome from start to finish. It’s a masterpiece. The gameplay, graphics, atmosphere, and story are all amazing. JUST PLAY IT.

The bad: This game is BUGGY. This is the buggiest game I’ve played in over 10 years. For a game released in 2023 by a major studio… this is bizarre. Did they play test this at all? It was launched a year ago, and the bugs happened in January 2024. WTF!!!

Installed on SSD. 16 GB ram. RTX2070 SUPER. Core i5-4690K. High settings at 3440x1440. My specs aren't amazing, but 95% of the time the game ran flawlessly.

Be prepared to go to End Process for Dead Space in Task Manager after every crash, which is usually at least once per play session.

Some of those common bugs are:
Using menus… super slow frame rate, sometimes the game crashes.
Exit the game… crash.
Start the game… crash (sometimes)
Load last save after you die… crash.
Changing video settings… crash (and doesn’t save your changes)
Enter random small hallway… game crawls to super low frame rates (but other huge areas with a million little objects runs smooth)
Alt-tab… crash

In addition to the common bugs, I encountered 3 possible game breaking bugs (spoiler alert)

Invisible bad guys in the hospital level. I got around it by guessing where they were and shooting “empty” space. Their models loaded once they were dead. This could be game breaking for some.

After the leviathan grabbed me in engineering, Issaac never stood up. I had to crawl all the way to a save station… saved, loaded, and then I was STILL CRAWLING! I had to crawl backwards to a store, which made Issaac stand up and fixed it.

Chapter 10, Mercer and the hunter never loaded. Bizarre cut scene with Issaac talking to himself, and then… no hunter. I could still shoot the tentacles and progress in the game… but I have no idea what Mercer said, what happened to him, or why the glass broke.
