Buy on sale for a stripped down, fun FarCry-like experience with a American small city/town aesthetic

Performance
This is not a "bad game", don't let the reviews fool you. I never experienced any crashes or major bugs. Performance was fine. I did notice some glitching (ex: NPC inside the ground, tagged UI elements not disappearing, etc), but thats about it. Yea, its a janky game in some areas. But its not as bad as the most of the reviews make it out to be (at least, not anymore)

Story
The story kinda sucks. It's not compelling whatsoever, and nothing really big happens. Story-wise, it can be compared to Half-Life 2 and HL2 is so much more compelling, interesting, and "epic"; this is no where near that

Environment/ Graphics/ World

I absolutely loved the environment details and NPC interactions! You can notice it changing in response to your progress in taking over a region. The attention to detail to the rubble and dilapidated, run down places and things, was pretty good too.

Graphics look good. The lighting really makes the mood at times. The UI great and I really liked the weapon customization feature. I thought it looked good.

Designs were pretty fun and interesting. Its always interesting to an outpost transform into an American safehouse/base once you take it over. I liked the contrast between the futuristic, modern looking soldiers and the rough, poor-looking rebels.

Gameplay
I played this on deathwish difficulty. You can die very quickly, but the game is very generous with giving you medkits/ ammo, and you can somewhat easily run away and hide when things get too heated.

The basic gameplay loop here is going to a region, doing some map objectives, collecting collectibles, and completing the story objectives. It's kinda similar to Far Cry. But if you like that aspect of checking off map objectives, then this one is a fun one for that, especially on deathwish since its so tense just moving from block to block. Also, there are some puzzle aspects where you have to find the right entrance/way in for buildings and places; that can be kinda fun, especially on deathwish where you can easily get into a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Conclusion

Its not a bad game, its not a good game either. It does scratch that itch if you want a simple, farcry like FPS shooter. Especially if you want to play a game as an American, fighting back for their country, which is always a fun theme

Pretty good game so far. I like the game loop of sneaking around, killing enemies, questing, and looting. Will update my review once I've seen more of it, but atm, I definitely recommend this game

Note: I had an issues with the camera; but it is no longer an issue.
I had clicked on the "Z" key which zooms in on your character. With the ARPG control scheme (I think thats the one I am using), you can mouse ahead of your character and see far enough.

Also, with the enemy indicators, you can spot enemies that may be inside buildings or elsewhere, that you can't see due to the topdown nature of the game

If you have issues with dealing with the camera, you will get used to it after some time

Not much redeeming qualities in this one. Generic, bad FPS gameplay, boring story/ characters, and linear short campaign

Colorful, visually fun looking game. Controls feel kinda floaty and awkward (played with keyboard + mouse). Overall, good game for people who like side scrollers/ platformers

Metal Slug X is a classic, timeless game that is very fun even in the 2020s.

The amazing pixel art and detailed animations is really fun to look at and enjoy. The gameplay is very hectic and chaotic which makes for a good time, although it can be very frustrating how difficult and unfair some parts are.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this game. The game runs better than the Steam version of Metal Slug 1, however there are still enough slow downs and lags that makes it unplayable. It's very sad to see such an amazing classic game from 30 years ago running so terribly.

I don't recommend this game for full price; Its not worth $15 since it is pretty short, has some annoying flaws, and could have more content. BUT, I do recommend it for its unique gameplay which is really interesting and novel

This game has many flaws:
- crashes
- its very slow outside of the fights
- annoying level select
- its short
- etc.

However, this game has potential! I can imagine a sequel that can take all the good elements of this game and really make it amazing...I really hope this game is successful enough to motivate the developer to create a better version of this game

So in short, I'd recommend you purchase this game (on sale) for its originality and fun gameplay and to support more games like this

I just had to support the developer for making this mod. :)

Seeing a half life 1 mod in 2017 was such a fun little surprise!
