I love this game so much I'm going to make a pretty high effort review.

Synopsis
This game takes the tried and true shoot em up genre and turns it on its head... The ship you use can be customized and built in any way you want as you grab more mods / gear for it, literally endless opportunities....

Whether you want your ship to:
* Shoot enemies just like in any other shoot 'em up game... in a variety of different and unique ways... Close range, far range, charge attack, you name it.
* Have a battering ram ship that damages enemies by ramming onto them at the speed of light dealing ludicrous amounts of damage.
* Summoning heaps of powerful / supportive constructs that do your bidding for you for a more passive / lazy experience.
* Generate deadly burning shields / burning enemies with your ship's blasters to burn your enemies to a crisp...
* A combination of two, three or even all of these, and more...

And well, that's just the tip of the iceburg. You can mix and match, completely change builds mid-game and still miraculously survive... and even thrive... The possibilities for how you want your ship and playthrough to be are absolutely endless and the game never stops being exciting.

Tl;dr
I absolutely recommend this game if you like shoot 'em ups. It's pretty much my favorite one to play due to how limitless the possibilities are for each playthrough.

Achievement hunter section...
Oh yeah, I also 100%'d the game's achievements, so I might as well share how that went if fellow achievement hunters are curious:
Achievement 100% difficulty
I'd say it's quite a bit above average in difficulty, but not overly difficult. I think I had 3 or 4 achievements that I had to look up the solution of / had a bit of help from someone watching me play because I'm not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to problem solving... The rest of the achievements I figured out and did on my own. A few of the achievements required a good amount of skill and luck.
My personal hardest achievements
  • Ultra Chaos: My personal hardest achievement. This achievement requires the most luck and arguably skill though the skill required to get this is mostly based on how lucky you are.
  • Filled with determination: Tough but only because I suck at dodging. Requires a decent amount of dodging skill.
  • World Serpent: Easiest of the three but still requires a high level leviathan build, a body I've never really gotten used to...
My proudest achievements that I didn't look up a guide for
  • A Bold Strategy
  • It was at that moment, he knew.

Can't go wrong with Terraria, especially with mods.

Pros:
* Still holds up 16 years later. Immersive and the notes really match the rhythm for mp3 and even ogg files.
* Getting the achievements was fun except for the leaderboard ones. Those require friends...
* The vegas and mono characters were my favorite. The ones that actually require me to puzzle and use my brain aren't my kind of style.

Cons:
* Crashes a lot.
* Half the time I have difficulty clicking "Ok" on the top of the starting screen.

Overall:
A great game that still holds up 16 years later! Absolute banger game and series. Makes my tons of ogg and mp3 files in my old hard drive useful and brings back a lot of memories... Audiosurf 2 is a tad bit too expensive for me, I might consider buying it on discount but we'll see.

I used to make crappy games here as a kid for hundreds of hours and well, here I am doing it again over a decade later... and I still love and cherish every second of it. Now with some general programming knowledge in my belt, I feel like I could do a lot more than what I used to do as a kid and it's been a lot more fun in both learning and developing. I'm still really impressed with how powerful and actually still relevant this is as a game engine despite this being so close to 20 years old thanks to community made add-on / scripts / plugins. While I don't think I'm ever going to commit to making a marketable or big game I'm enjoying my time making something casual and silly. Still one of the most powerful and easily accessible game engines. Recommended!

I will make this into a recommend if the devs compensate NASB2 for those who bought the first one. Actual review: Honestly a pretty good game, the devs used to listen to the community a lot, hopefully they listen again and give compensation for those who bought the original game.

Comparisons with Pokemon (In my opinion)

Pros over Pokemon
  • Great multiplayer compatibility with one of the most wholesome communities!
  • Ease of swapping moves out with previously learnt ones or Technical Course moves (TMs in Temtem). In pokemon, it's a lot less intuitive with the move relearner.
  • The lack of relying or dreading luck in moves.
  • No overpowered statuses unlike pokemon's freeze / sleep.
  • Typing is somewhat more balanced than in pokemon.
  • A much better and more strategic battle system, I love how stamina encourages you to switch and not use like the same 1-3 tem throughout the game, which you often do in casual pokemon playthroughs, let's be real.

Cons over Pokemon
  • Microtransactions, premium currency and all that ♥♥♥♥, but thankfully it's only for visual stuff, but it still drags it down a lot for me. Decorating a house to your liking shouldn't take you years of playing or using your real life money.
  • Getting to previous locations should be a thing earlier in the game. I've been playing the story for 30+ hours and I haven't gotten to that point yet and you do need to get to previous areas in the game for side quests / the free tem weekly quests.
  • You also get mounts really late in the game so movement can be a bit slow and tedious throughout the game until very late in the game.
  • Bugs exist, though very minor at this point like the tem following you around disappearing at times.
  • Lack of variety in the wild grass compared to pokemon, making wild encounters pretty boring. I was half expecting rare tems to show up when it's legit just the same two tems showing up in that patch of grass, and this happens a lot...

The generic number review template (all out of 5★)

Gameplay
Graphics: ★★★★½
The graphics are nice and polished.
Audio: ★★★★½
The music and sound effects are nice. The music is nowhere near as well made as pokemon's but still really good overall.
Controls: ★★★★★
No complaints here.
Mechanics: ★★★★
Mostly explained above on the pros & cons over pokemon.
Story: ★★★½
The story drags on for a bit sometimes but it's pretty intense.
Performance: ★★★★
Minor bugs here and there.

Value
Value for price: ★½
Honestly way too pricy when sold at its base price, I'd recommend to wait for at least a 30%+ sale. This might be a me problem since I'm usually very frugal when it comes to buying things.

Overall
Overall: ★★★★ (Very good game)

Kingsway is quite the unique operating system rogue-lite rpg experience. You manage a lot of windows, maybe a bit more than what you're used to when you use a computer.

There's one window dedicated to overworld stuff like exploring, story progression, buying things from shops, sleeping from the inn. There's three windows dedicated to the player, one for player status, one for player equip/stat point distribution, and another for assigning skills / skill points.

All seems simple and peaceful, until you face enemies. A lot of the enemies will try to sabotage your fights by crowding your whole game with MOVING windows which consist of other summoned enemies or projectile windows that will damage you unless you press a button on any of the fast moving windows to avoid them. Some enemies even hide your window into the taskbar. Some teleport the fight windows around - You get the picture, things get crazy when you fight late game enemies!

You try to destroy/subdue one huge enemy known as the sky eater. You can do this in various ways, get in the king's castle to go in a portal to try to stop the sky eater, or the other better method, you can go to hell... I won't spoil too much about that, but hell yeah, you can go to hell to stop it. Be warned that when left unchecked by wasting too much time doing almost nothing, the sky eater will eventually devour your world, making your game a tedious and eventually impossible experience, so you better keep moving and know what you want to do next. Rest in inns or beds as little as possible to maximize your potential.

There's tons of different endings, competing in the daily leaderboards is also a lot of fun. I've only unlocked 5 out of 7 endings 30 hours in, so the game is quite replayable. So I highly recommend the game, definitely a whole lot of fun.
