Early Access Review
This is a wonderfully lo-fi version of what the Battlefield games should be.

This is a great work in progress. Gameplay is excellent and the theme is on point. Update 10 brought a lot of optimization improvements allowing for smoother gameplay, though it still has some rough spots.

Still a great game overall if you are looking for a WWII shooter.

This was a fun puzzle game. Most of the puzzles were not too difficult to solve, however there are a few that are pretty tough and usually once you unlock a new ability it takes a puzzle or two to figure out how to use it properly to solve other puzzles.

The story is OK, but I didn't read all the text as there is quite a bit and it didn't seem that relevant to the plot.

This was a decent puzzle game. Most of the rooms were not too hard, if you've played these types of games before (ie. Portal). The story was alright, but was pretty cliche.

It was a little disappointing that the main character is not Clementine, but I still found the story pretty interesting and did grow to like the new characters. I don't think this is as strong as Season 1 or 2, but it was still pretty good.

This game on the original Microsoft Store launch was pretty barren, but Rare have kept at it by adding things for players to do. You can log in and go on a voyage for loot, attack a skull fort, fight other players or just chill out and fish. Since there are no unlocked powers through leveling up your character, you don't have to worry about playing every day to keep up and can play at your own pace.

The developers are continuing to add to this game, even though the pace at fixing issues may have slowed and COVID has certainly impacted their ability to add large updates with any regularity, but I expect this game will be providing new adventures until at least 2022.

As of November 2022, there is now an on demand PvP mode which will allow you to queue up to fight other ships whenever you want making finding fights much easier. A great addition!

November 2024: The game is currently not in a great state, as it has a few server performance issues and some bugs that may impact gameplay. I would still recommend it if that doesn't bother you.

Stardew Valley is a great farm sim in the same vein as Harvest Moon. There's tons of content, from farming to fighting monsters in mines, to collecting tons of different items and exploring new areas. It's great!

The controller feels nice and is quite a bit lighter than other controllers which may take getting used to. The configuration options are nice and it is quite responsive.

Early Access Review
This game is still in Early Access, so you need to keep in mind that it is in the middle of development and playability will vary wildly.

That said, the game currently has its issues. It is not optimized and has a ton of issues that still exist from the Arma 2 / Take on Helicopters era of this engine. The framerate is low and there is occasional desync which can cause bugs, injury or death. You can follow get information on changes that are coming by reading the bi-weekly Status Reports at dayz.com, and there is a lot of information on new modules that will resolve issues that people have been complaining about forever - namely the new DirectX 11 Renderer and the Player Controller and Animation systems.

UPDATE: As of v0.60, the renderer has been implemented and the performance improvement is immediately noticeable. On my current system (I7 2600K, Radeon 6950 2GB) I can maintain a minimum of 50fps in cities, and much higher in the country side. The current experimental branch has a preview of the new audio engine, bringing much better sounding effects to the game world.

UPDATE 2018-11-21: The game is now in beta, which means that all legacy modules are gone. The game runs a lot smoother in all aspects, however some of the new systems are still buggy. While it is probably the best experience the standalone has had to date, it is still missing a lot of content that needs to be re-implemented on the new system.

If you want a completed, polished product this game is not for you. The game can be fun, but as its in development there will be hiccups along the way. The end result, I hope, is going to be worth the hardship. If it turns out to not progress much more than its current state, I feel I've already got my $30 worth out of it.
