This is a free to play, pay to win game. If you don't pay to buy virtual clubs and balls, you are at a severe disadvantage. Even if you pay, you're still hindered as you can only buy low tier equipment to start, based on your level. As you level up, you can keep buying more equipment (and in some cases can sell back your old equipment for about 25% of its value).

Virtual golf balls drastically affect your play, cost more than real golf balls, and seem to be made of virtual paper since they disintegrate with use. You pay something like $2-5 per ball, and they take them away from you after about 90-120 hits. Or immediately if your shot goes in the water or out of bounds. Seriously, one bad shot can cost you $2-5 real money! Unlike on a real course, you can't pull a cheap ball out of your bag on a difficult shot where you know you'll lose it, they force you to use the expensive balls. It's insane.

They have other dark patterns to cost you money. For example, there are daily goals to accomplish:
* play x number of holes
- using up your hits on your balls, and in cases where you play head to head, if your opponent sinks their ball before you, it won't count as a hole toward your goal, even though you played it (your balls are still used up though of course)
* compete in x tournament
- most tournaments require a fee to enter
* buy something from the pro shop.
- $$$

For actual game play, it's equally bad. The graphics are brutal, just overlaid on photos. Depending on the hole and your previous shot, your next shot may have you off screen! Or in one case I just saw, the photo was from a massive bunker under the green, so you needed x-ray vision to be able to see the flag and your putting grid.

Stay away from this game!

Really like the interface with this.

Awesome game. Multiplayer is a tonne of fun.
