Beautifully-made skeleton, now it just needs the meat.

Everything about this game is just stupidly well-done and polished. The movement is satisfying, the combat is meaty, flexible, and feels great, getting new items is a dopamine hit every time, and the exploration of the (medium sized, don't expect Elden Ring levels here) open-world areas are immersive and pretty enticing to explore. The graphics are beautiful, and while I don't play with the retro overlay on, I can appreciate the artistry behind it. You can tell this was made by someone with a serious eye for this stuff. All the weapons and items are super cool, and I feel like I haven't even begun to dig into what's possible with the item set we have access to right now.

I do have a few minor gripes (That I imagine will be fixed as time goes on, eyeing the roadmap). The hub world is pretty confusing for a first-time player and there's lots of dashing around you have to do. Worlds are large enough, but besides killing enemies and raiding small and scarce dungeons, there doesn't seem to be that much to do both before and after fighting the final boss. Of course killing things and exploring fills the time, but you could definitely speed right through each world to the bosses without really missing anything besides loot (which is super important, but very gradual in its power distribution). There's a waypoint system, but it doesn't seem to serve a well-defined purpose yet.

As far as I can tell there are only two worlds at the moment, and besides testing your skills against the difficulty settings, there isn't that much motivation to dive back into a world unless you're running back to where you died to retrieve lost treasure. Realistically, it's pretty minimal content for the price tag, but it's such GOOD content that I'd encourage a purchase just to support the solo developer working on the game.

Do I recommend the game? Hell yeah, buy it, this game's ♥♥♥♥♥♥' sick. But be aware of what you're paying for. The bottom line here is:
Buy it right now if you want to support a solo developer, buy it in a year from now if you want much more content to play.

Genuinely surprised it's taken me this long to write a review about this game, and since I recently hopped back in to play it again, felt it was about time to write one.

EASILY one of the best VR games that you can buy right now. It's simple, addicting, and fun as ♥♥♥♥ to fly around and dodge projectiles of all kinds. Once you get the pretty simple controls down you'll practically be shooting enemies behind your back as you zoom around at mach 5, weaving between crystal and enemy. The soundtrack is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ banger and the sound design is tight as hell. I only wish that one day the developer makes a return to this game, it's easily one of my favorites, and I hope they pick it back up in the future.

Looks absolutely amazing of course (thanks Unreal), but runs horrendously (thanks Unreal).

I'm conflicted, because while I think this project is exceedingly cool, especially being one that's entirely volunteer-run and at release, will be 100% free (!!!), it feels like it has a bit of an identity crisis.

This fan-made title is meant to act as a "Half Life 2: Episode 3", as opposed to a full-fledged "Half Life 3", but it feels like it's attempting to dip toes into both ponds, meanwhile trying soo hard to mostly be the former. The UI and most of the sounds aim to replicate HL2, which it does relatively well, save for a few off-sounding sfx. The movement and functionality also aims to 1:1 replicate Source's movement and feel, but it still just feels a little off and clunky. But there's so so much more beyond these recreations. All the world tech, the updated object, enemy, and player models, the scene streaming, and the souped up other areas of this title are completely new and redone aspects created over what I can only assume is years of R&D from a group of talented people.

It all just has me wondering if this should be taking wayyyy more creative liberties with itself and daring to become its own special entity, rather than still trying to stay constrained to match the skeleton of HL2 in an attempt to become an episodic continuation. Still, looking forward to seeing the final product :)

Finished at just under 9 hours.

This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome and practically one of a kind. Not only is the megastructure aspect nailed beautifully, the game's also just an excellent 3D platformer. There are so many great ideas packed in here. Even though the path from A to B is generally linear, there's enough tech in this thing that you can absolutely take unintended paths many times throughout the game.

It's a personal 9/10, dropped to an 8/10 because of the last chapter.

Just buy it, okay?

(This game sorely needs a VR version asap)

Yes, this game is better than BONEWORKS. Are there release bugs? Ofc, but that's just how game development goes.

Better visuals, better player rig, better level design, better puzzles, better combat, another amazing soundtrack (with twice as many songs), built-in minigames with a ridiculous amount of replayability, mechanics that reflect some serious innovations in the VR space, and the potential for years of community created content via the power of extremely passionate developers. Yeah, it's worth the money.

The campaign is certainly shorter than BONEWORKS, but the overall quality of it is so much greater.

Seized the means of production, made production my ♥♥♥♥♥, then made clones of myself specifically designed to dance and encourage the other working clones.

This game is fun as hell.
