The only people who wouldn't love this hat are people who complain far too much.

Let's put it this way - I liked this game so much, that back in the mid-2000s, I was part of the development team of a group that tried to recreate it in UT2004 (the UTR/UT2341 project). And yes, we actually put out a couple of releases, too.

That should be all that needs to be said for how classic of a game this is.

A cerebral puzzler. The core concept is very easy to get down, but executing your plans is surprisingly hard... it requires you to put on your thinking cap and plan several moves ahead, just like Chess.

Definitely something you could play for hours, though. And the soundtrack is top-notch.

An example of "games as art" to the fullest. It may be short, and it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but if you're one of those people who love to be drawn in by a game's ambiance and atmosphere, you really can't go wrong with Dear Esther.

Just be prepared to do lots of thinking, and willing to draw your own conclusions. The story is not something that is crystal clear and obvious... it challenges you to piece it together and to draw your own conclusions, and that is where Dear Esther really shines.

Mindless fun. It may be hard to do some things early on, but by the end of the game, you can be nearly unstoppable.

Don't think too deeply about the story - just grab some weapons and blow stuff up!

What? You actually need *REASONS* to get this game? If so, you've either never played an Elder Scrolls game before, or you're a poor, unenlightened sap. Try a game that, without a single modification, can give you hundreds of hours of play for your coin - and that's not counting any future DLCs, or user-made mods that will inevitably spring up for it. Simply put, it'll be some of the finest gaming your money can ever buy - as long as you don't mind deep singleplayer, offline-only games, and are willing to sink plenty of hours into exploring every nook and cranny of the dungeons you come across.
