I used to work Business Developer for an HR company once. And I'm not trying to flex anything other than wanting to let know how difficult it is to develop a game, and specially keep a business running, but don't be surprised when I say this game as a product is not going to go very far, as the fact of Steam charts over the years.

I saw a few streams, but for the price tag this game has, I had to be quick to play it since its a lot of money to waste on a product.

And let me explain why I refunded:

- Where marketing where good, but that's just all about it about this game... Using clever videos pictures and words, will not get you far is you don't deliver what you ad so much about. Customers are not stupid.
- The Game is not an Open World Survival Game, its an extraction action game. (This was my biggest surprise, they actually changed the genre of the game to some Tarkov wannabe.)
- The looting mechanics feels simple, and looting for items that are basically categorized as Junk, docent give you much to craft or anything other than sell at the trader this is extremely boring and linear on top of the scripted scenes at start and no Open world.
- The No Melee Combat (like for the love of god, your playing an apocalypse action game and you don't get to melee either?)
- The Weapons are not realistic at all they claimed that, but i guess they are better at Marketing than delivering realism for sure.
- The Sims like Base Building on another safe zone... So boring..... But I had a bad feeling about it knowing how many years it took for Rust , SCUM and DayZ to deliver a proper base building ( and games overall...)
- There overall atmosphere background noise (Like you can feel the games tries hard! and sometimes its just confusing and annoying specially the alarms and gunshots which are fake btw.)
- The Looting other players, no name, no nothing.
- The empty buildings, there is literally nothing to do other than loot for junk or few ammo rounds around. Eventually you see a few zombies or a player.
- The A.I. is terrible.
- The Cut scenes from Safe Zone and Base Zone to the City ? Like dude if you want to copy Starfield be my guest, but this cuts a lot of the tension away.
- The PvP isint that good either, I got killed once, and kill one dude, but like no stats no tag or skull.. Whats the point?

Nah like I will be pretty surprise if this game actually surpass lets say my favorite game SCUM...

Game feels dead, and a side from the Good Survival Open Worlds. Why?

1. Map is simple
2. Traders are simple
3. Locomotion and animations are simple. You cant prone
4. Weapons don't feel realistic
5. Tutorial are simple and stupidly made (Goal 1 Find a weapon Goal 2 Kill an opponent, says alot of a simple game, simple mind).
6. NPC`s are stupid

Rooted Alpha Test is pretty good, like what I'm must surprised on is the Detail on the Point of interests, in this case the Monastery. Its very good compared to every other alpha or early stage I have played. Sound atmosphere, and music is good too.

Though I'm still having some trouble compared to the performance or optimization of the Graphics, I hope they found about soon.

I dont expect all to be perfect, but to be a the first Alpha its a good staring fundamental for a game..

Its been some hater comments around the Halloween and even though I can understand the hate on DLC, Micro transactions I will still need to correct some of the people who apparently don't do any research or objective reflection on what it takes to develop a game, or how much knowledge the the started Head Light Studio actually has.

And to put a game on Steam, its takes balls among the competition, but I want to also remind you all that there are a lot of fails and look a likes out there, so its important that Rooted stays at its own good game giving us something that its both familiar but also kinda different from for example Open World Survival games.

Everyone has its favorite game, and me too, but I hope this could also one day become one, and hopefully also attract enough people so its at least on the Top 100 most played games on Steamchart, because that also means money for development. I think been somehow a hybrid between an open world and PvE with some option for PvP will be important. You can never underestimate the creativity community have, because they too can create games or popularity within a game. To be giving an example: Counter-Strike, Garrys Mod, Rust, DayZ they where all a mod. Some even started game based on mods instead. But there also a lot of free voluntary creativity who also develop stuff for the game, and some times it can be a payed mod or map, skin or DLC. Among the soup of both good and bad.

So Im not saying Rooted should be an Open World or have DLC, but it surely should be keeping that as possibility too when developing a game. Because Linear Games, its a path of one or some persons, which can in the end become boring, and Tripple AAA games also often do this by the cost of millions of dollars. And saddly I see that a lot on expensive games that I might at least try for 160 hours.

Mat`s been great sharing and communicating on the Discord. After all its his and the other devs product and his making something to be proud of. Suggestions also from the community should be looked at, since after all a game its made as a product to "borrow" your time and money.

Well after all i helping founding this game amooooooong maaaany others. So I jsut hope it docent turn to be another Dead Matter.

This should not be free... Like if you don't like Skins don't buy them lol. Skins is where the majority of money is made for for example Rust. Why? Because people log in to buy skins, and NO they don't ruin a game. Skins make the creativity flow, and will attract hopefully talented modders and 3D artist among the community.

Now I am happy the devs are taking a different approach than Rust. I like the professional made DLC packs, but I also like the way Rust does it too. And want to specially thank Minoza the developer for putting in the Highlander Skin on this DLC. I am happy to buy it!

My wish list is though to also put some kind of a editor in the Game Menu so we can make our own, and that only the Developers can Approve that you can buy them at the marketplace and be used in the game.

EDIT:

After 33 Hours. Here are some CONS of the game, even though I still recommend this game.

- We started playing Story on Normal The game crashed bugged hard after we spend 20 hours, and we had to restart all over again, due to a Respawn bug where we could not retrieve the Inventory Roll.

- I dont totally understand why there is a Peacefull mode, without any Enemies at all.

- The story is ... pretty simple, and you can litterally in Peacufull mode finnish the game in 3 hours if you know where to go.

- The Normal mode can also be to hard, we experience respawn of the "tentacles" and "spider" mutants, mid cave.

- The inventory isint pretty realistic, you are litterally carrying above 60 kg of equipment all the time, and it can be very difficult to get used too.

- I dont see the point of building bases in this game, even though its cool, you dont need a base to finnish the game.

- There isint much more to do once you finnish the game, and there is not likely that you will play this game PvP (even though its on) because of the weapons you need to get due to story progress, and where bases are litterally unlocked for everyone. There should be an Open World PvP mode.

- At start the map seems big, but when you realize that you can zoom with the GPS, the map becomes very small. Also I was hoping the map had loads of POI such as houses and interessting POI, but I guess its why they call it the Forest.

Here is my old review:

So many freaking excellent first impressions really! After 3 hour of trying to get this game.

1. They say this runs on UNITY? Seriously? I just cant believe it.

2. The Animations of this game to be an Early Stage ARE smooth like the petite ass from the girl next door.

3. The A.I. I hear them cry in sorrow after we killed his girlfriend, being curious, strategically attack, block my attacks with BIG BALLS, some climb trees like Golum, and run scared away. Some just checking on you, some sneaky SILENT KILLING YOU, making a gore out of you, and SCARE THE ♥♥♥♥ OUT OF YOU thinking it was your mate or Kelvin. OH. MY. GOD!

4. Seasons, you can literally see the leaf fall down and cover the ground on Fall! And the wind blow the trees when it windy.

5. The SOUND and MUSIC, such a PIECE OF ART ! TOP NOTCH SOUNDS!!! And a very The Thing music. One time we got Techno music at a random tribe camp with blood spraying all over the place. Even the sound of the avatar breathing, the screams, the 3D sound and trees falling man.

6. The Base Building, its very good, however it can be a bit annoying sometimes. Just be carefull not to chop down a tree and let it fall overyour base lol.

7. The Flow of the game runs so good on at least me and my mates PC.

8. This game didn't lost connection at all, only a small animation glitch on my mate holding of a log.

9. Kelvin, and the Mutant Girl. SO MUCH FUN to watch, and what help.

10. The Details of the little things like a body on a fire, or throwing the Spear, or Waves at the ocean.

THE BEST 3 HOURS I HAVE HAD IN YEARS!!! Very well made so far, I take my hat to this developers. I cant wait to spend hours exploring what this Early Stage is Capable of.

If other Survival games current, and upcoming don't learn from SOTF, which very much just set up a new standard, I would be highly disappointing and surprised.
