The best Single Player FPS of the decade, easily. The gameplay is incredibly fluid thanks to omitting certain industry standards like crouching behind cover and reloading. The pace when in combat is blistering fast as standing still means that you are going to get punished hard. It tests your flexibility as well as situational awareness with high intensity, although it never feels unfair - when you die, you know it's because you screwed up, not because of bad game design. The various arenas that the fights take place in are well-designed and you need to move both horizontally and vertically if you want to survive. You need to chip away at enemies from a distance, but also get up close and personal, prioritize targets, choose which weapon to use - all at a blistering pace. Between battles there's downtime where you walk towards your objectives or just explore the maps for a bit, which breaks up the pace nicely so the game doesn't overwhelm you. There is a TON of hidden secrets and collectibles, some of them being there just for people who like the hunt for trophies, others rewarding you with certain gameplay perks that can make your life a lot easier especially towards the end of the game. A good number of the latter category is essentially hidden in plain sight, or not hard to find if you explore a bit, so it doesn't feel like the game is punishing you for wanting to move on to the next action-packed slaughter fest either. As for the weapons, there is some good variety here. Fans of the original DOOM games will recognize the plasma rifle and the double-barreled shotgun, and of course everybody's favourite weapon: the BIG F*CKING GUN, or BFG-9000. Except for the pistol and the double barrel, every weapon has two weapon mods that add even more variety to your beefed up arsenal. And of course, there's glory kills. When an enemy has taken a sufficient amount of damage, they start pulsing with a blue light - if you get up and personal and press the melee button, the DOOMSLAYER (you can not write this in any other way than all caps, I have tried) rips and tears them apart in a variety of ways depending on which body part you look. Ripping out jaws, beating a demon's skull in with its own arm, a good old quick twist to the neck. Much like with the weapon, the variety is huge here.
And all of this incredible fun is supported by Mick Gordon's equally incredible OST, that packs the heaviness of some hardcore metal but sounds different enough to not be a cliche action game OST. Seriously, I can not overstate how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome the OST of this game is - and it's dynamic, too, meaning that it reacts to what you are doing in a fight.
Oh, and the absolute best part of it all? NO MICROTRANSACTIONS! Take note other studios.

Long story short: If you're looking for a fun, fast paced single player FPS that has its focus on providing the player with the best possible experience he can have look no further. Put on your power armour, grab your double-barreled shotgun and get ready to RIP AND TEAR

There's still a decently sized PvP community despite Sandstorm being out for a while now. The game is fun especially playing with friends, and can be a good way to kill some time even when playing alone or offline.

Hands down one of the most amazing games I have ever played. The open world concept is handled amazingly here. Instead of vast, open and mostly empty landscapes, we get a few different large setpieces that get revisited multiple times at different points in the story. Gameplay could be a bit more challenging, but is nonetheless incredibly fun with its combination of hack-and-slash and bullethell elements. The soundtrack is an incredibly atmospheric work of art that, while it could easily stand on its own two feet, enhances the experience dramatically. The brilliance of the narrative and general direction of the game becomes obvious with the third playthrough and subsequent true ending. If anybody ever doubts that video games have artistic value, point them to this and tell them to stick with it until the end.

Came for the 2Butt, stayed for the feels, the existential dread and the faint glimmer of hope that makes it all worth it.

The setting looks gorgeous, the combat is fluent and has a rythmic quality to it. The difficulty is harsh and mistakes get punished, and at times it can be frustrating, but overcoming the hurdles is worth if it. I definitely recommend this game if you like a challenge.
If you're used to Dark Souls and Bloodborne combat, however, be warned: you'll have to unlearn a lot of things or you will get your ass kicked. But once combat clicks it's incredibly fun.
