The network disconnection issues are so bad in multiplayer that there are frequently times when multiple games in a row can't be finished. Naturally, those are the games where I had a good position. In other games, I get eliminated quickly before the game can disconnect, and my rating goes into the toilet. The dev has GOT to fix the networking code because as it is, so many games just can't even be completed, and it's super infuriating.

Early Access Review
Like Civilization and Kerbal Space Program before it, Factorio has a unique ability to timewarp players hours into the future unbeknownst to them. You've got to keep a real close look at a clock if you're going to play this game anywhere close to bedtime.

There's also more to improve on your base setup in Factorio. Whether it's expanding into more land by wiping out biter nests and placing turrets to hold territory, building more mining outposts to increase the flow of resources, tweaking your rail setup, tweaking your factory, adding more assembly lines for materials and parts, fixing the flow of items through your base, or even looking up other players' blueprints online, there's always something more to do in Factorio.

It's a gigantic resource optimization and logistics game. It's the eternal struggle of buying more dip because you ran out and you still have chips left, and then later buying more chips when those run out and you still have dip, ad infinitum. And like Minecraft, once you get bored of the base game, there are several widely played mods that change everything (such as Sea Block) and essentially give you another game to learn afresh.

Factorio will certainly appeal to anyone who likes strategic/thinking/puzzle games, and especially to any engineers out there (software/hardware/otherwise). To give you an idea of how deep the rabbit-hole you can go: Factorio is Turing-complete.

This is one of my very favorite games of the past decade. I love it that much. I keep going back to it over and over again. Ever since I was a child I've always dreamed of there being a realistic space flight simulator where you get to design your own rockets, and *this is that game*.

You'll also learn more about orbital mechanics from playing this for one hour than from reading a book for a day.

When I first heard about this game I was turned off because I thought it was primarily a rhythm game. But that's not where the challenge comes from, as the rhythm aspects aren't particularly difficult. No, I would describe it more as a real-time roguelike. The challenge comes from being forced to quickly think about how to handle complex situations, at an almost twitch reaction speed in the later levels. It's hard, addicting, and fun, and there's a satisfying progression of persistent powerups across play-throughs.

This game is sort of similar to Rogue Legacy owing to the real-time nature of it, though it is discrete, not continuous, and top-down, not side-on. I'd still say the feel of it has more in common with Rogue Legacy than with something like, say, NetHack.

The character and enemy graphics are fine, but some of the level graphics are not so good (Zone 2, I'm looking at you especially).

A fun mix of strategy and action. Both factors come into play in surviving a level. The organic co-op is a very nice feature, and some levels definitely require a mix of good players to survive especially on higher difficulties. The basic mechanic here is that each player gets a set amount of resources and the enemies scale linearly, so four players get four times the resources as one, meaning they can build towers much more quickly, which is essential for survival on certain maps.

One of the downsides is that sometimes you get paired with people who really aren't very good and don't come close to carrying their weight. That's no fun. Playing with friends is recommended.

A fun game that's pretty darn tricky on normal mode (I was able to beat it several times on easy mode). It's a real time game that allows pausing and issuing of orders at any time, like Total War.
