I wanted to take a moment to write about this game, even though I didn't get as far as I'd like to before writing a review. There's another game just like this called Gunlock. This is a rogue-lite shoot'em up. Like Gunlock, you pick your ship and find a handful of weapons in the level that you upgrade on your run. There are also utility items that are upgraded that support your play through such as regenerative health, shields, speed ups and damage ups. This game has branching paths and all the weapons feel unique and powerful as they upgrade. It has an addictive hook that keeps players engaged. For the price point, you're really getting a lot of game here that's really very fun.

Just a note as to Gunlock. I was intrigued by how similar this game is with Gunlock. It even made me think that the developer may have borrowed some ideas from that game. It's hard for me to say which game is better, though. Although Gunlock has more variety and deeper game mechanics, Gunfield has much better graphics and effects, a real story, and novelties like branching paths and upgradable pilots. The thing is, this genre of game (rogue-lite shoot'em ups) are all very good and relatively cheap, so I would say just buy both games. They're both very good and you'll definitely get your money's worth.

On a warm summer's evening
On a train bound for nowhere
I met up with a gambler
We were both too tired to sleep
So we took turns a-staring
Out the window at the darkness
'Til boredom overtook us
And he began to speak

He said, "Son, I've made a life
Out of readin' people's faces
Knowing what the cards were
By the way they held their eyes
So if you don't mind my saying
I can see you're out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey
I'll give you some advice"

So I handed him my bottle
And he drank down my last swallow
Then he bummed a cigarette
And asked me for a light
And the night got deathly quiet
And his face lost all expression
Said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy
You gotta learn to play it right"

You got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealing's done

Every gambler knows
That the secret to surviving
Is knowing what to throw away
Knowing what to keep
'Cause every hand's a winner
And every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for
Is to die in your sleep

And when he finished speaking
He turned back toward the window
Crushed out his cigarette
And faded off to sleep
And somewhere in the darkness
The gambler, he broke even
And in his final words
I found an ace that I could keep

You got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealing's done

You got to know when to hold 'em (when to hold 'em)
Know when to fold 'em (when to fold 'em)
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealing's done

You got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealing's done

I'm a big fan of Warriors of the Nile 1 and part 2 does everything that made the first one great and more. There's more heroes, more diverse levels, more tablets, and more strategic fun.

If you don't know, this is a strategic turn-based rogue-lite with meta progression. As you play, you get further and further in and earn new characters and abilities. The game is just like chess in that every move carries significant weight and consequence. There is an element of RNG, but you can't get anywhere unless you know how to tackle your opponents on the board.

If you like SRPGs like Shining Force or X-Com, you'll like the strategy side of this game. If you like rogue-lites, this game will scratch that itch, too. If you like well-made games from a dedicated developer, buy this. No matter what, you can't go wrong.

KR 5 is a great TD game, although not the best Kingdom Rush game. It has all the charm and lovely art that the series is known for, but the towers and heroes aren't as interesting as previous games. Also, while previous games had branching tower upgrade options, this one keeps it simple with only a single upgrade branch. This takes away from the varied gameplay of prior games.

Overall, I enjoyed this game and it's a good addition to the series, but it's not the best Kingdom Rush game.

Early Access Review
I'm not a big survival/farming gamer. I actually find this stuff initially fun, but tedious and boring soon after.

Palword was able to capture my attention better than most. In fact, I really liked the gameplay loop and the world the game gives you to play in. It's really fun and the progression is quite addictive.

The best part is all those cute little Pals. No, I'm serious. These guys are so damn cute. Seeing them saunter around, doing cute little animal things, is just so adorable. And when I see new ones, I just have to capture them and take them back to my base. To live with me. For special cuddle sessions. Sweet little touches. Private moments. Forever. Forever and ever.

Deep in the crypt where ancient priests worshiped vile and malicious gods, their mummified bodies still left where they chanted their last breath, your flickering torch barely casts enough light to pierce the darkness of the tombs. Do you go deeper, towards the moans and growls unseen? Alas, the way back is littered with unspeakable horrors that you barely escaped and your vitality is all but exhausted. Whatever you decide, take haste oh forsaken one. The moon is full and death is not far behind.

Holy crap this is a good game. First of all, it's got that Japanese flare that I rarely see these days. You know, like during the PSone and PS2 days when Japanese games were bold and took risks. It's like those one hit wonder games that you remember picking up on a whim only to discover that they're really genre defining and a blast to play.

Here's how it works: you are a soldier with magical abilities. You can shoot magic shots, lob magical grenades, run and jump like a ninja, and you control a giant mutant albino elephant with a weapons platform on it's back. There are node throughout the game's massive map. You pick a node and that becomes your tower which you must build and fortify. Whenever you work on your tower, enemies appear in waves and the game turns into a tower defense game. And this is all wrapped around a nonsensical story. It's freaking amazing!

You can find items to equip around the map; you can upgrade your weapons platform with more guns and reposition them; you can earn and equip new spells; you can upgrade your tower so that it can heal itself and fight back during invasions. There's probably more stuff, too. I'm just getting started. And for a small team (maybe solo developer?) the graphics are pretty nice.

Bad stuff? Nah. Some would say this game is complicated and doesn't hold your hand. I say BURGGEIST, baby!

This is a very old school game. It really shows its age and may turn off most players due to its archaic mechanics, but there's a charm here that's undeniable. It's also packed with a ton of lore that comes up in the rest of the series. If you're a fan of Ys or just want to experience some old school action adventure, this is a worthy game to play.

I should also note that the game is fun to play but there are, what I think, some unfair difficulty spikes. The most egregious is the final boss which nearly ruined this game for me. Due to this, I was unable to get all the achievements which really sucks and upset me. It just wasn't worth the time and frustration. Don't get me wrong, the game isn't bad and any Ys fan should pick it up without hesitation. Just don't expect a smooth ride.

FYI, I played this mostly on the Steam Deck and didn't experience any issues.

This game is good and scary. There are many hidden things to find. I really liked the jump scares.

This is the ultimate retro compilation. The collection of games is fantastic, but what makes this package great, besides the excellent emulation, is the bells and whistles that pull it all together. You have a great launcher that looks like a 90s bedroom complete with a CRT TV and magazines lying around. The games are nicely organized on a shelf with the option to play each one with mods. They thoughtfully included challenges and achievements to add new life to these old games.

I think they removed some Sonic games that were originally part of the package, which is a shame, but otherwise this is a terrific collection of great games. I wish more companies did this with their catalog of classic games.
