First off, I want to preface this game review by saying I've played Borderlands 1 & 2 multiple times and love them both. WUB WUB WUB

Pros:
More Borderlands; fills in some story gaps (at least attempts to)
Grinder - good way to get rid of all that crap loot.

Cons:
Paint by numbers exercise - the developers showed up for work but I didn't feel like they tried, didnt hook me and in the end, I just got bored.
Story - not as good as it could have been.
Australians - I love Aussies, I've been there several times, I have friends there but bloody hell 2k , STREWTH, we GET it, dial back the aussi-ness from 11 - it gets irritating.
Grinder - borked as hell.

At some point I got bored/apathetic towards the story and it just couldn't grab me; combat by numbers , an unbroken formula that NEEDS some innovation.

All in all, an average game on its own, a poor addition to the franchise and can definately be skipped - watch the last 9 minutes on youtube to see how Jack became Handsome Jack and what's coming next.

this game is one of those that when you first scratch the surface your flying around clueless, then the tactics start coming in as you learn the game, the new maps open up , single play maps, more and more advanced planes. (and now tanks although i have yet to try it).

This game will make you feel like tom freaking cruise out of Topgun one minute as you evade countless fighters in a giant airbourne fur ball to shoot them down, singlehandedly turning the tide.......... and Launchpad McQuak the next as you fly into a hail of bullets to be cut down or miss every single enemy in a match.

You can pay to advance quicker and get premium planes (very few seem worth getting) but its more fun playing matches to rank up.

Addictive - i find myself now becoming a dealer - pushing "warthunder" on all my friends who will listen.

Bought the game in the sale - EXCELLENT!!! good trailers , good reviews, looked fun, BARGAIN. Fired it up, got an error telling me that i needed to have steam running , **head scratching** restart, verify game cache. grumble obscenities. remove the game files and delete local copy, PIECE OF CRAP! **grumble** reinstall. same error AGH!!! **googling , looooooooooooots of googling** set up nether account check, waiting for email (A FREAKING DAY LATER FOR AN AUTOMATED EMAIL!) check, all looking good , okay lets start this up , give it a chance I'm nothing if not a nice guy. **double click** server page , eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeendlesssssssssssssssss server page. OH GABEN GIVE ME STRENGTH!! **more googling to see if anyone else has had this error** yuuup, every other person seems to have it . oh and did i mention that their devs identified this issue LAST FREAKING YEAR!!!! yes thats right one whole year - the best advise is "wait 10 minutes" in their own forums.
This game will now sit in my game collection gathering dust until they patch it and finish their work (hey thats what he deserves for a beta) i hear you cry. yes maybe your right, but a freaking year after identifying a bug is crazy, even for a beta.

no i wont recommend this game , for your sanity and 5 hours of my life tinkering i will never get back. what a let down

been an avid player of civilization series since the very beginning on the Amiga. A great addition to the series and a worthwhile buy for anyone who wishes to lose a weekend "one does not simply play civilization for an hour"
