FromSoft have been cooking hard for the last two years and delivered in a major way. This is practically a sequel to Elden Ring in all but name. It's worth the full price of admission and more.

The Map & Level Design:
Miyazaki is either the most humble man on Earth or he's a great liar: this thing is way bigger than just Limgrave. The new map area is around the size of Limgrave, Liurnia, and Caelid combined and some more. Each region in the field is extremely varied and they manage to make each new area feel both distinct from the last but still clearly connected in a seamless way. This carries over into the mini dungeons and legacy dungeons too. FromSoft have mastered these things in a way that few other studios can match imo.

Bosses:
They rock, full stop. Each one is somehow more impressive than the last. They've all had at least one moment in their fights that have made my jaw hit the floor in awe before they fold me like clean laundry and send me packing back to the nearest site of grace. Nothing else needs to be said here tbh.

Weapons:
The new archetypes have been a lot fun to experiment with and I'm already planning new runs built around them. Rellana's Twin Blades might be the coolest one I've gotten so far but I love that perfumer bottles and throwing knives were established as their own distinct archetypes too. I do wish that throwing knives and the martial art gloves had as much variety as the perfumer bottles though. There's a different perfume bottle for each non-physical damage type while there's only one throwing knife and like two gloves total as far as I can tell. I also wish that these new weapons were accessible earlier in the game. I don't usually do NG+ runs and I don't love blitzing through the game at a low level so any builds I want to make for these new weapons would be gimped until I could beat Mogh with something I didn't even want to use. By that point I'll have gone through around half of the base game, if not more. It's not the end of the world though and it doesn't make me love this expansion any less.

Armor:
Elden Ring's real end game is even better now. I say I play these games for their gameplay but deep in my heart I know that Fashion Souls is the be all and end all for this genre. Letting me access the Berserker armor less than a minute into the DLC sealed the deal tbh, my Guts build and I are eternally grateful.

Difficulty:
This is all end game content. It's not designed to be blown through in sub-10 hours by normal players. It wouldn't be satisfying if you could, at least not to me anyways. FromSoft expansions have ALWAYS been challenging but they are never impossible. The game gives you all the tools you need to level the playing field, you just need to engage with the new mechanics. Use the Scadutree Fragments. Use the Revered Spirit Ashes. Having a hard time with a boss? That's okay! Don't ram your head into a brick wall for hours and make yourself miserable. Go look for more upgrade materials! They're a huge boost to your damage resistance and the damage you do. Use summons too! There are tons of them and they're all very cool. Is your build not working out the way you wanted? That's also okay! The DLC throws tons of Larval Tears at you, go respec and try out new things. Don't limit yourself arbitrarily to a rune level that the community decided would be best for PvP matchmaking. Push past rune level 150! Being over leveled is not a real thing here, I promise you won't ruin the experience. Let yourself have fun!
