I actually enjoyed it, but I can see why many players did not. I would not recommend it unless it is on sale though.

Basically this game is a mix of both terrible and great things. My biggest turn offs were how long it takes to pick up and how incredibly awkward melee combat is when that's a big focus of combat.

You'll be fighting the same bland basic ♥♥♥♥♥ zombie for 10-20hrs depending on your speed with the very rare appearance of a different type, and with ♥♥♥♥ weapons. Once you gain access to the second map, they just dump a bunch of new types on you pretty much all at once, which I actually didn't mind, but they could have done it like 5hrs earlier than they chose.

The end game content is actually really good---but there's no one to play it with and there's only a few missions. In my opinion, the co-op missions are where the game really shines (but also so will the awkwardness of combat haha), and it was really disappointing to see how little content there was for it.

And then yes, the melee combat. Swing speeds are absolutely atrocious on many weapons. A bow is a good idea, but then you can't bring a spear, a weapon that is actually quite decent and doesn't give me enough time to run to the bathroom before it swings. My solution to this problem was to bring a bow and just use running attacks for melee. You'll dish out a ton of damage and can actually swing heavier weapons some time this century, but expect to also receive a bunch of damage. And oh my god the amount of time it takes for you to take out med spray and heal yourself.

All in all, it's like a 6/10. There were some really good ideas and things that were really fun. And then there's a bunch of unnecessary ♥♥♥♥ that feels like it was included on purpose just to cause problems for the player.

Incredibly underpriced for the content you're getting. It's been a while since I've been this addicted to a game. Can't wait to play it in co-op.

It's okay. I play it on the hardest difficulty without any challenge, though I've only done the first two levels, so maybe it's just an excruciatingly slow start. Neither the gameplay nor the story have stood out to me yet. I'd say skip this one and grab their Zombie Army Trilogy instead if you're looking for something similar. It's still generic, but at least I enjoyed those games.

I'm having such a good time with this game. I love RPG elements, but absolutely cannot stand turn-based games, an aspect which this game replaces with rhythm game mechanics. I like most of the music, but I've found areas 3 and 4 of the adventure to not be as enticing as area 1 and especially area 2 were. Depsite what you might read in other reviews, combat is definitely not complicated. Yeah, there's options, but once you've played for a bit, you'll find what works for you.

It's pretty good but oh man, does having started with the Escapists 2 really show you how far they've come with this series. Wish they'd redo it/ make a sequel with the more refined mechanics they have now. Combat is so awkward.

I enjoyed it just as much as the other one, despite not being able to relate to Chloe as much except through her journal. The ending choice kinda felt unimportant, but since it's a prequel, they really couldn't spoil Life Is Strange, I found the backtalk stuff to be so awkward haha, and the way people responded to it seemed unrealistic most of the time. Still, it was a good story. And despite there only being 3 episodes this time, it still felt quite long. Also, I just played through the bonus episode, which was a great addition and was the only reason I bought the deluxe upgrade.

Overall, it's another amazing game that you would expect from the series at this point. I really enjoyed it, flaws and all.

The story is leaps and bounds ahead of Zestiria, though I liked how they linked them. Fighting Zaveid never gets old, especially with that battle music. There were so many battles in this where you get the feeling I can only describe as "I'm going to kick your ass." There's extremely slow parts filled with long ass dungeons or field areas with way more enemies than I expected. Further on in the story, I started just rushing through, but of course that came back to bite me in the ass when I couldn't do chaos difficulty for the end-game content.

The battle system isn't quite as awesome as Zestiria's but once you get 5 members in your party, it starts to come close. I still enjoyed it though. The souls thing was hard to get at first if you aren't playing Velvet (and if you aren't I would keep her out of the battles for the most part because the AI has no clue how to be a therion). Most of the characters presented different playstyles, so if I was getting tired of one, I would switch out. Ended up really liking Eleanor and Laphicet. Also thanks for not making the equipment skills so unnecessarily complex like in Zestiria.

I only had two issues with it. The first was how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying Velvet could get trying to be 2edgy4me. She talks about devouring Seres and her village like she's this extremely horrible person, but the villagers were daemons and Seres asked Velvet to after sustaining fatal wounds. And when she's like "But I'm not doing it for you" to anyone, it's just like why even say that?

The second is that unfortunately, the final boss didn't do it for me. I couldn't find a balance between getting my whole team wiped out in an instant by the little ♥♥♥♥ and having it be so easy that I never even had to fear anyone dying. The final battles didn't give me that inspiring feeling of "I'm gonna kick your ass" like many of the other important battles did. There was a surprising lack of emotion from the characters, even with where the story had progressed. And almost no battle chatter like I've come to expect from the Tales of final bosses.

Oh, also there's a bunch of typos in the end-game content, so not exactly sure what happened there.

And if you use a controller, the second page of control bindings for artes is wrong. It shows the left stick, but it's really LB.

When I first saw the negative reviews, I thought people couldn't handle the switch to 3D.

That's not the problem.

I really liked the switch to 3D, but the game feels like a sample of what that could mean for the franchise. Here's why:

*Puzzles and fights rarely caused me any trouble, but I bet puzzles would be harder with having to get 3 players through each section. Achievements for completing the game in co-op would push that.

*Getting all of the trineangles was pretty easy, the few I missed in my first playthrough of each level wouldn't have stopped me from finishing the game. Also, there's no levelling up, so they only mean something for the achievements.

*The game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ends abruptly for no reason other than them wanting to make another game. It made no sense for it to finish where it did with the "final" boss it had (spoiler alert---------------------------->it was just some random enemy).

*Liked Amadeus in the previous entries? Well ♥♥♥♥ you then because he can only make a single box and move some ♥♥♥♥ around. I barely used him.

I bought this for the story, but found the gameplay way more enticing (not that the story wasn't good). A very well-made game all around that is definitely worth your time.

Has a lot more depth than the store page makes it seem. Trying to juggle 10 different meters while figuring out who to justifiably sacrifice is incredibly difficult. The achievements are pretty hard to get and take careful planning.
