While there is undoubtedly a lot to be said for the allure of nostalgia, what it ultimately comes down to is that Psychonauts 2 is just a great game - regardless of if you’re a returning player or discovering the series for the very first time.

PROS:

Well priced

Heartwarming Story

Filled to the brim with clever and witty humor

A large variety of things to collect and find while exploring

CONS:

Like the first game in the series, Psychonauts 2 is far from perfect, but these imperfections help create the magic the game offers and fixing anything would be taking away from the overall experience

While the world hardly needs more Zombie games, it does need more survival games like Dymantle. Instead of falling into the trap of becoming a time sink and feeling like a second job, the allure of Dysmantle is how easy it is to pick up, play for an hour and then leave again with no harm done. Dysmantle takes the best parts of survival games, Zombie games and resource management games and combines them into a gem of an indie that shouldn't be missed.

PROS:

Great price

A surprisingly massive map with a seemingly never ending amount of tasks to complete while exploring

Fun to play alone but even more fun to play with a partner

CONS:

Survival game veterans might find the game too laid back and easy

It's a survival game so expect a lot of grinding

No Place Like Home is definitely a game; there is no denying that. But one thing it's not, is fun. If you're in the mood for a farming style game, there are countless on the market that look just as pretty but will offer you more in terms of gameplay and enjoyment. While there may be no place like home, there is no place in my home for this game.

PROS:

It's pretty to look at?

It has an okay premise?

CONS:

The terrible camera controls

The clunky gameplay controls

The HORRIBLE enemy AI

And pretty much everything else

While Martha is Dead is definitely not going to be for everyone, it doesn't have to be. There is something about the uncensored, unapologetic and raw way the horror is delivered that fans of deeply disturbing physiological horrors are sure to find a kind of uncomfortable solace within.

PROS:

The voice acting is truly beautiful and comprehensive, in both Italian and English

Yes, you're going to feel uncomfortable in parts of Martha is Dead, but that's the point

CONS:

The story is told in a very fluid way and uses a lot of symbolism to get the point across so if that's not for you, maybe steer clear

Many scenes can be considered triggering; heed the games trigger warning well before proceeding

Night Reverie pulled me in with its gorgeous pixel art, kept me playing with its entertaining yet straightforward puzzles and floored me with its emotionally charged story. If you're looking for an Indie game that won't take you weeks to finish but will stay with you for months to come, then definitely consider Night Reverie.

PROS:

Instead of relying on "moon logic", the answer to every puzzle can be figured out logically and with the clues at hand

It's gorgeous to look at, and the character's personalities all shine through the pixel art

It's not a game that relies on your frustration to progress

CONS:

It is very dialog heavy and the dialog is vital to the story so be warned

The game is on the shorter side, and while I enjoyed every single hour, I wish there were more

The simple puzzles might lead you to believe it's a game aimed at a younger audience when it isn't

While FAR: Lone Sails was never really my cup of tea, I did find myself oddly entertained by FAR: Changing Tides even though they are both, essentially, the same game. This change in heart is due, in no small part, to the change in visuals that created a world I wanted to look at and spend time within. However, it's still a "Far" title, and unless you can find peace and relaxation in having to constantly micromanage a ship that's falling apart, on fire or simply refusing to move, then maybe this isn't the game for you.

PROS:

It looks really, really pretty

For the most part, the gameplay is pretty smooth, and the puzzle solutions are intuitive

CONS:

Micromanaging can very quickly become a chore

The puzzle sections often felt intrusive and brash instead of like a natural progression

The Last Campfire is like a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter's night; It's like your mom reading you your favourite bedtime story as a child, and it's like putting your music on shuffle and hearing exactly what you wanted. The Last Campfire is incredibly simple and straightforward, from the mechanics to the puzzles, making it a game that can be experienced all on your own to tune out the world around you or shared with your child, a younger sibling or even a friend.

PROS:

The narration sounds like someone is reading you a bedtime story

There is a constant sense of tranquilly and melancholy flowing throughout the game

The score, while not being memorable when not playing, is haunting fitting during the experience

The puzzles all rely on one thing and one thing only, logic. Nothing was overly complex, but everything makes you feel good about yourself when you solve it

CONS:

Not enough of a fuss was made about this absolute gem of a game, and it almost disappeared between the cracks

At roughly five hours of playtime, I didn't feel ready to say goodbye to the world yet and wished I didn't need to

Cris Tales has one of the most exciting time mechanics I’ve seen in a JRPG in a long time. Unfortunately, it ends up feeling more like a novelty and less like an essential part of the game pretty early on. 75/100

PROS:

Great voice acting

Beautiful environment and character design

Time Manipulation keeps things interesting

Diverse group of characters and abilities

CONS:

Expensive for an Indie title

Time Manipulation doesn’t feel fully utilized

Story feels aimed at a younger audience but the difficulty of combat does not

The tutorials feel very out of place

While I was far from impressed with Glitchpunk in its current state, I think it shows great promise and could be an exceptional top-down shooter when all is said and done, and the issues are patched out. Glitchpunk is currently in Early Access, and I'd gladly revisit it and revise my score when it launches. - 40/100

PROS:

Story Works Well With The Dystopian Vibe

Good Combat Balancing

Perfectly Scratches That Nostalgic Itch

CONS:

No Manual or Auto Save

Lots of A.I. Bugs (It's Raining Cars)

Dodgy Physics

So Many Frame Drops, So Much Lag, and a Whole Lot of Freezes

Fuzzy Graphics

While The Ascent is undoubtedly a hot mess right now, its greatness still manages to shine through like a neon light, and I'd definitely recommend playing it once the issues have been patched out. We will revise our score to 85 if the developers are able to patch the bugs and make the game playable. 40/100

PROS:

Excellent voice acting and character design

One of the most fun co-op games of the year

Attention to the smallest of details

The vast cyberpunk world of your dreams

CONS:

So many bugs/crashes/glitches

The story feels underwhelming
